The Billy Whittaker Cars 200, on Sunday, October 7, will feature 41 of the best Big-Block drivers in the country competing for their place in NAPA Super DIRT Week history along with a $50,000 paycheck.
Billy Whittaker Cars and Trux, based just outside of Syracuse, NY in nearby Central Square, offers quality pre-owned used trucks, cars, SUVs, vans and used vehicles that are Good to Go!
“We’re excited to be a part of the biggest Big-Block Modified event in the country again,” said owner Billy Whittaker. “Our timing couldn’t have been better, as we came on just in time for one of the best races in Central New York history. We look forward to making a great event even more memorable this year.”
Whittaker, a long-time Big-Block Modified competitor, has had a storied career. Last year he finished 18th in the main event after getting tangled with five-time Super DIRT Week Champion Stewart Friesen while running in third.
“We are pleased to have Billy Whittaker Cars and Trux return as the title sponsor of Sunday’s big race,” said Brian Carter, Chief Executive Officer of DIRTcar Racing. “We had high hopes for the partnership last year, and they really came through. Billy has been a great competitor in the Series and a great business man. We’re pleased to have his name on our Modified flagship.”
Last year, the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 certainly lived up to the hype. In just over two hours and 200 laps, everyone in attendance was treated to drama, frustration, heartbreak and celebration. A classic superhero battle between Super Matt Sheppard and Batman Peter Britten brought the crowd to their feet as Sheppard made a bold move on Britten in the last lap to pick up his second NAPA Super DIRT Week victory.
This year, the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds will hit the 5/8th-mile oval on Wednesday, October 3 for the first of several practice sessions throughout the week. The powerful Modifieds will run Time Trials on Thursday afternoon to lock in the top six positions for Sunday afternoon’s Billy Whittaker Cars 200.
The Series will then take over the Clay Palace under the lights on Friday night, October 5, for the Triple 30s, locking in another 24 competitors into Sunday’s grand finale. On Saturday morning, all remaining Big-Block Modified drivers will compete in the Last Chance Showdown to fill out the field for the Billy Whittaker Cars 200.
When the action at Oswego Speedway comes to a close Saturday afternoon, the focus will shift over to nearby Fulton Speedway for the 25-lap Win and You’re In, where one lucky driver will lock themselves into the 41st and final starting spot in the granddaddy of all Big-Block Modified races.
On Sunday, October 7 at 11:45 a.m., just two hours before the main event, all qualified drivers for the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 will sign autographs for fans on the midway outside of the front stretch. The Billy Whittaker Cars 200 is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with opening ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. and a $50,000 paycheck for the winner.
