URC Sprints Set To Invade Big Diamond This Friday

Story By: KENNETH BRUCE / BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY – MINERSVILLE, PA – It will be a huge night of racing and competition this Friday night May 25 at the Big Diamond Speedway.It will be Mattera’s Electrical Night as the United Racing Club Sprint cars make their first of two appearances at the speedway.

The storied sprint car club always put on a good show when the come to “Coal Country” and this visit should be more of the same. Josh Weller is the current point leader with a small ten-point advantage over Curt Michael. Expect both drivers to be on hand this Friday as they compete for the 2018 championship.

After a week off, the Mattera’s Electrical and General Contracting 358 Modifieds will be raring to get back in action on the banked dirt oval. Currently Craig Von Dohren and Ryan Godown are tied for the lead with 674 points with Duane Howard and Jeff Strunk not far behind just waiting for either driver to falter. Opening night winner Billy Pauch Jr who had a DNF the last time out will be looking for redemption this Friday to climb back into the title race.

Just like the Modifieds, the USS Achey Sportsman division was also given the night off last Friday. Craig Whitmoyer has a slight advantage over youngster Alex Yankowski in the race for the 2018 title. The Sportsman class always puts on a exciting show for the fans and this week should be no exception.

Rounding out the big show on Friday will be the Savage 61 Road Runners and the No Sweat Service Group Street Stocks. Both of these division always put on crowd pleasing feature races.

General admission for Friday night is $25, Seniors are $23 with Kids 10 and under admitted free. Active Military with ID are free.

Gates open at 5:30pm with warmups begin at 7:30 with racing starting directly afterwards.
