From DE To NY, The Short Track Super Series Has You Covered On Memorial Day Weekend
Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – MILLSBORO, DE – From southern Delaware to upstate New York, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco has you covered on Memorial Day weekend.
Two events – one Thursday and another on Sunday – are set for the holiday weekend.
Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., plays host to the third round of the STSS Velocita-USA South Region on Thursday, May 24 with the ‘Diamond State 50’ at the Cathell family’s half-mile oval.
STSS Modifieds race 50 laps for $5,000-plus to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag in the third round of the 2018 South Region. Joining the STSS Modifieds are the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman in a 20-lap, $1,000-to-win, $100-to-start event, Round No. 3 of the South series. Delaware Super Trucks complete the tripleheader card.
After two events – one at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway in March and another at Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway in April – Matt Sheppard leads the STSS Modified South point standings, with Corey Cormier atop the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman points.

On Sunday, May 27, Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y., is site of the ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ STSS Halmar International North Region Event No. 2. The Spoonhower family’s facility offers a 50-lap battle with $5,000 going to the winner and $400 just to take the green flag for the STSS Modifieds.
STSS Crate 602 Sportsman kick off their five-race North Region racing for a $1,000 payday in a 20-lap feature. Street Stocks, $1,000 to win, complete the show.
Stewart Friesen, who won the ‘Hard Clay Open’ STSS North Region lid-lifter at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y. – leads the series to the Mountain.
