Port Royal Has All Stars’ Kauffman Classic & Moon Shine Camo Series Kickoff Saturday
Story By: SHAWN BROUSE /PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – Port Royal Speedway will honor its most successful driver in history coming up Saturday night, April 14 when Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Stars Circuit of Champions Sprints invade for the annual Keith Kauffman Classic.
The Kauffman Classic will go 30 laps in distance and pay $5,000 to the winner.
Also on the card will be the kickoff of the 2018 Moon Shine Camo Rt. 35 Dirt Late Model Challenge Series, contested between both Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways.
The Moon Shine Camo Series kickoff will go 25 laps in distance and pay $2,200 to win.
Adult general admission for the show is set at $22 with students ages 12 – 18 admitted for $10.
All gates will open at 3 pm.
The event is presented by Locust Grove Retirement.
Kauffman, the Port Royal oval’s most prolific winner, owns a list-topping 129 career sprint car wins at the historic track along with a pair of late model victories.
His last Port Royal win occurred on June 11, 2011 after taking his first back in 1977. The veteran retired in 2013.
Invader Dale Blaney of Hartford, Ohio, won the inaugural Kauffman Classic in 2016 while Lance Dewease scored the 2017 version.
A deep field of All Stars is expected to enter the event as the circuit recently released a roster of 20 drivers that are expected to follow the series in 2018.
On hand will be time-tested, well-traveled, highly successful veterans such as Jac Haudenschild, Joey Saldana, Dave Blaney, Chad Kemenah and Paul McMahan.
And in fact, Blaney just scored at the track for his first win of the season anywhere in an unsanctioned event on April 7, to tune up for the big Kauffman Classic.
Other All Stars expected to compete include young guns like Parker Price-Miller, Max McGhee, Carson Macedo, Cale Conley, Aaron Reutzel and more.
With a total purse worth more than $12,000 up for grabs, the Moon Shine Camo Rt. 35 Series kickoff for late models is sure to attract all the biggest stars from across the region as the series boosts an increased total event purse payout this season.
Drivers will get $225 just to start the main event.
Several thousand additional dollars have been pumped into the event purses and series-end point payout for the 2018 version of the six-race series conducted between Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways.
The series is comprised of six races with three being held at each speedway during the season.
2018 Moon Shine Camo Series Kicks Off Saturday
The kickoff of the 2018 Moon Shine Camo Rt. 35 Dirt Late Model Challenge Series between Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways is set for this Saturday night, April 14 at Port Royal Speedway.
A total purse worth over $12,000 will be up for grabs by all the late model stars in the region with $2,200 going to the 25-lap event winner while even 24th place pays a healthy $225.
Adult general admission for the show that includes the All Stars Keith Kauffman Classic for 410 sprint cars is set at $22 with students ages 12 – 18 admitted for $10.
All gates will open at 3 pm.
The 2018 Moon Shine Camo series is made up of six race dates with three to be held at each speedway throughout the year.
Additional Port Royal dates come up on July 7 and July 28 while at the other end of Rt. 35, Selinsgrove Speedway hosts dates on May 19, July 21 and on August 11.
The total series point fund will increase this year to as much as $4,700, pending completion of all six series races. Previous funds have topped out at $3,500.
Points will be accrued in 2018 based on not only event performance but for series attendance as well.
And in addition to the boosted 2018 series point fund payout, all drivers that enter every event held this season will be in the running to win a special Moon Shine Camo Outdoorsman prize package, valued at over $1,100.
The winner of the special prize pack will be chosen at the series champion’s respective track banquet.
In the Moon Shine theme and patterned prize pack will be a Semi-Automatic SR22 Model 3633 .22 caliber pistol, an Orca brand 40-quart cooler, a pair of Orca 32 oz. tumblers, a hardshell jacket, a stadium blanket, a long sleeve shirt, polarized sunglasses, two hats and other items.
