Only Opportunity To Practice To Prep For Afton Season Coming Up This Friday

Story By: JR KENNERUP / AFTON MOTORSPORTS PARK – AFTON, NY – The racers are raring to go, the track is ready to go, the race fans are ready to see some racing, the only drawback is that Mother Nature hasn’t decided whether it is winter or spring just yet.

Hopefully the weather will straighten out so on Friday night April 20th Afton Motorsports Park will swing their gates open for the first time this season for the only Test and Tune Session of the season.

Pit gates will open at 4 pm with hot laps starting somewhere close to 6:30 pm. Pit admission is $20 with free grandstand admission being offered with a donation of canned food for the local food banks.

Even though it is only hot laps, it is an excellent opportunity to come out and check out the new blue clay surface at the track. Along with the new faces who will be calling Afton Motorsports Park home this year. Also this is a great opportunity to bring someone new to the track and show them what auto racing, short track style is all about.

During the Test and Tune Session, concession stands will be open with a limited menu, season passes for the pits and grandstands will also be on sale.

A large field of racing machines are expected this Friday night for the Test and Tune Session. It is open to any racing machine that will be in competition at Afton Motorsports Park this year.

Coming up on Friday night April 27th is the 2018 Season Opener as the ” Chase for the Championship ” begins in all six divisions. Pit gates will open at 4 pm, grandstands open at 4:30 pm, mandatory drivers meeting takes place at 5:50 pm with hot laps to follow and the first heat goes green at 7 pm sharp.

Pit admission on opening night is $30 while grandstand admission is $12, senior citizens 62 and up are $10, youth from 9 to 14 are $5, and 8 and under are free with a paid adult admission.
