Can-Am, Brockville Reignite Border Battle Series For 2018
Story By: BRITTANY NELLIS / CAN-AM SPEEDWAY – LAFARGEVILLE, NY – Back in the 1970’s to the 1990’s, there was a friendly rivalry between the Can-Am Speedway and the Brockville Ontario Speedway, where did the top small block modified racers call home.
Racers from both sides of the border competed against each other weekly, at both the 1/2 mile Can-Am Speedway and the tiny 1/4 mile clay oval at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. Over the years, the rivalry has calmed down, but thanks to the 1000 Islands RV Centre in Gananoque, Ont. the rivalry will be re-ignited.
The speedways will be hosting a 4 race series, with 2 races at each speedway to see who can claim the 2018 series championship. There will be 2 back to back races with Can-Am welcoming the Canadians on Friday nights June 8th and July 13th and the Brockville Ontario Speedway will see many of the American competitors invade on Saturday nights June 9th and July 14th.
All 4 events will be 35 laps in distance, paying $2000 to the winner. Drivers will be competing for a $3500 (Canadian) point fund to the top 3 drivers. The champion will take home $2000, with 2nd and 3rd place finishers receiving $1000 and $500 respectively.
The point fund is being sponsored by the 1000 Islands RV Centre.
The Border Battle Series is sure to be some intense racing as everyone looks forward to the modern day Canadian/American rivalry.
