Afton Test & Tune Postponed To Monday Night; Opener Next Friday May 4th
Story By: JR KENNERUP / AFTON MOTORSPORTS PARK – AFTON, NY – Afton Motorsports Park track promoter Ronnie Ford has postponed the Test and Tune Session slated for Friday April 27th until Monday night April 30th with gates opening at 4 pm and hot laps starting at 6:15 pm. Pit admission on Monday night will be $20 while grandstand admission will be free with a donation of a canned food item that will be given to the local food banks in Afton.
The 2018 Season Opener will take place on Friday night May 4th with pit gates opening at 4 pm, grandstand gates opening at 4:30 pm, mandatory drivers meeting starting at 5:45 pm, hot laps at 6:10 pm, and the first heat going green at 7 pm sharp. Pit admission will be $30, grandstand admission is $12, Senior Citizens age 62 and up is $10, while Youth aged 9 to 14 is $5, and 8 and under are free with a paid adult admission.
” The facility was just about ready until we got hit with all of the rain on Wednesday and that didn’t help the cause ” stated Ford. ” Plus the weather forecast is calling for rain on Friday and with it suppose to be sunny and much warmer on Monday. I decided to move Test and Tune to Monday night and we will open next Friday night for sure. ”
On tap for the 2018 Season Opener will be the ZMK Construction Modifieds, Chambers & O’ Hara Open Sportsman, Butler Auto Sales Crate Sportsman, Rinker Insurance Agency Street Stocks, IMCA Modifieds, and Four Cylinder Trucks. Each division will feature as long as at least 12 cars are entered in the respective division a full slate of qualifying events of heats, consi, and feature. If a division fails to have 12 entrants, then that division will run a feature only and this will be the policy all season long for all divisions.
All members of the media are reminded that if they plan on attending the opener on May 4th they must get a credential request approved before the day of the show.
