Wilson Eyeing Successful DIRTcar Nationals To Open Third Straight Season With World Of Outlaws
Story By: SHAWN MILLER / GREG WILSON RACING – BENTON RIDGE, OH – Greg Wilson is embarking upon his third consecutive season on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tour when it kicks off the 2018 campaign this week in Florida.
The Hercules Tires backed team will race Friday through Sunday at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville during the famed DIRTcar Nationals.
“Volusia Speedway Park is a fast, half-mile oval that requires two things to be successful,” he said. “First, your car has to be setup right and you can’t have any failures. And second, it’s a momentum track so you have to make good decisions because one hiccup will cost you a lot of ground.”
Wilson’s best performance at the track came in 2006 when he placed seventh and 10th, respectively, during a pair of races. After several seasons of mixed results, Wilson has gained on his program at Volusia Speedway Park the last two years.
“Qualifying is key to setting yourself up for success at every World of Outlaws show so we’ll need to time in well this week,” he said. “Our team has worked extremely hard this offseason to prepare for a grueling season on the road. There aren’t many off nights and there isn’t much downtime. Getting off to a strong start with three good nights of racing at Volusia would be a big boost for our team.”
Wilson has been knocking on the door of finishing in the top 10 of the World of Outlaws championship standings each of the last two years. He has increased his number of top fives per season each of the last four years and his top 10s earned each season for three straight years.
