Sides Seeking To Extend Top-10 Streak At DIRTcar Nationals To 12 Straight Years

Story By: SHAWN MILLER / SIDES MOTORSPORTS – BARTLETT, TN – Jason Sides will once again start his season in sunny Florida.

Sides is slated to compete this Wednesday through Sunday at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville for the DIRTcar Nationals. The first two nights are sanctioned by the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions and the final three nights open the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season.

“You’re always itching to go racing by this time of the year,” he said. “We’ll use Wednesday night as a test session and depending on that night we’ll see if we race Thursday. The ultimate focus is to be prepared for the World of Outlaws opener on Friday.”

Sides has earned a lot of success at the half-mile oval, where he has produced at least one top-10 finish each year during the DIRTcar Nationals since 2007.

“Volusia is a big, fast track where momentum is important,” he said. “If you can set yourself up to start on the front row of a heat race, dash and/or the A Main you’re in the best position because of clean air.”

Sides qualified third quickest, fourth quickest and 12th quickest during the three World of Outlaws races at Volusia Speedway Park last season. He won his heat race during two of the three nights. Unfortunately, a broken nose wing on the opening night and a violent crash during the finale hampered his results.

“We set ourselves up well last year, but luck wasn’t on our side,” he said. “We had a top-five car both of those nights when circumstances happened that changed our fate. But we know how to get around that track and if we have that same level of speed this year I’m excited to see how well we can do.”

Sides was victorious at the track in 2011.
