Lancaster Speedway Adds Fifth Race Of Champions Modified Race To 2018 Schedule
Story By: DAVE BUCHANAN / LANCASTER SPEEDWAY – LANCASTER, NY – Lancaster National Speedway and the Race of Champions are adding a Modified race to the 2018 schedule now giving the devout fans of the series five opportunities to see the Ground Pounders at LNS.
Being dubbed “Midweek Modified Mania” for the added race, it will be a 50-lap chase to the checkered flag on Thursday, Aug. 2 and include the Advance Auto Street Stocks and Roaming Buffalo 4 Cylinders. Race time will be 7 p.m. and General Admission tickets will be $18, instead of $22.
“Fans keep asking for more Race of Champions Modified races at Lancaster and the opportunity came about to add one this year,” said Tim Packman, Track President. “Joe (Skotnicki, RoC Director) and I took a look at our schedule and that Thursday in August works because the Stock Car Series is off that Saturday for the Sunday Nostalgia weekend on the Dragway.
“By having three divisions racing that night, that means fans and teams can look forward to fast-paced races and get home at a decent hour. We have a long history with Modifieds on our 5/8-mile oval and this shows our continued commitment to the Race of Champions and providing added racing excitement for our fans.”
“Lancaster is an outstanding partner of the Race of Champions and as our schedule evolved this opportunity presented itself,” stated Joe Skotnicki, Race of Champions. “Tim (Packman) helped put this together and it gives everyone another opportunity to see the Modifieds at Lancaster and we’re excited about this. We’ve looked at a shorter race and this event is perfect for that format.”
Lancaster is holding its Racer Registration on Saturday, March 17 at Magruder’s Restaurant & Pub on Broadway in Depew as they prepare for the Queen City Clash opening day on Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
The Race of Champions Modified Series opens its season on Saturday, May 12 at Lancaster.
