Kevin Thomas Jr. Tabbed As Heffner Racing Driver For Chili Bowl

Story By: WHITNEY THOMAS / DUB PUBLICATIONS & MEDIA – INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Kevin Thomas Jr. is just days away from kicking off his 2018 season. Thomas will pilot the Heffner Racing Enterprises No. 27 at the 32nd Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.

“I’m excited to be in a strong car this year,” explained Thomas. “Sean Michael and last year’s driver, Larry Wight, put this car in the A-main on Saturday night, and I’m looking to repeat that for them. I got the chance to work with Sean Strausbaugh at Knoxville, and we work really well together. I’ve known Sean Michael for several years, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to race for him. He’s a great guy.”

Sean Michael is tabbed as crew chief on the No.27, with help from Sean Strausbaugh turning the wrenches. This will be Heffner Racing’s fifth consecutive Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals entry.

“This is my 7th Chili Bowl appearance, and I’ve yet to make the feature on Saturday,” stated Thomas. “So many things have to fall your way, and then you have to be able to race too. It’s a tough week. I’ve come close a couple times, and I’m hoping with this combination of sponsors, crew, car, and driver, that’ll we’ll be able to get it done.”

Thomas brought S.P. Beagle Plumbing, located in California, on board as the primary sponsor for the Heffner Racing No.27. Unique Breedz also hails from California, and can usually be seen aboard the No.12 of former USAC National Sprint Car Champion, Robert Ballou. Jordan Angle, with Angle Buildings (Indiana), will also be riding along with the No.27. Angle is a long-time supporter of sprint car racing in the Midwest.

“S.P. Beagle has sponsored my sprint car a few times this year, during California Sprint Week, and the Oval Nationals,” explained Thomas. “My friend, and crew member, Brad Alexander, has a family relationship with the company, and they have been over the top great to my team. I’m really excited to represent Unique Breedz. We had the opportunity to meet them at Haubstadt earlier this year. They put up some extra money in the purse, and are just all around really good guys. Jordan Angle has always supported sprint cars where I do most of my racing, so I’m happy to have his company on board. Hopefully, we can get these guys some TV time on Saturday.”

Although qualifying nights have not officially been released, Thomas is a probable for Wednesday night’s festivities. The 32nd Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals can be viewed online throughout the week at RacinBoys.com, as well as Saturday on MAVTV.
