Evans Mills Speedway Goes Saturday Night Racing

Story By: TRACY CHIRICO / EVANS MILLS SPEEDWAY – EVANS MILLS, NY – With the 2018 racing season drawing closer, officials at Evans Mills Speedway have made the announcement that their planned 2018 race schedule has shifted, with events from May through the end of August being moved to Saturday nights. September races will still be held on Sundays, as originally scheduled.

After racing on Sunday afternoons for the past several seasons, the announcement had been made in late October that the 3/8-mile paved oval would switch to Friday nights for the upcoming season. However, the late December sale of neighboring Can-Am Speedway and the subsequent announcement that Can-Am would be racing on Fridays instead of Saturdays prompted Evans Mills management to reconsider their options and opt instead to race on Saturdays.

The Evans Mills Speedway schedule retains the special events that had been announced, including a visit from the Classic Asphalt Modifieds and the 50-lap New York Super Stock (NYSS) Series event. The Classic Asphalt Modifieds will now make their appearance on Saturday, May 19th; and the NYSS event will take place on Saturday, July 7th. The Oswego Small Block Supermodified race, scheduled for Sunday, September 16th, is unaffected by the change. All previously purchased season grandstand passes will be honored for the new race dates.

The 2018 schedule at Evans Mills Speedway is slated to kick off with two preseason practice sessions on April 21 and 28, followed by Opening Night on May 5th. A number of special events have already been planned, including two driver autograph sessions, on Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, September 2. The schedule also features four Enduro events on Saturday, May 26th; Saturday, June 30th; Saturday, August 4th; and Sunday, September 2nd.

The track will host a Firefighter Appreciation Night on May 19th, an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Appreciation Night on June 30th, and a Law Enforcement Officer Appreciation Night on August 25th. The track will once again play host to the “Battle at the Border” INEX Legends Asphalt Nationals Qualifier and Bandolero Championship race on Sunday, September 9th. There will be no racing on Saturday, June 23rd for Graduation Weekend.

On Saturday, June 9th, prior to the start of racing events, the Rusty Wallace Driving Experience will take place at the speedway. The program offers a choice of a “ride along” or driving experience, and gives the race fan or racer a chance to turn laps at the track. The growing Mills Modified crate engine asphalt Modified class will continue to headline the schedule at Evans Mills Speedway in 2018. Several drivers have already purchased cars for the upcoming season, adding to the car count from the division’s debut in 2017. The Legends and Bandoleros, nationally sanctioned by INEX, will also return to action in 2018; as will the Thunder Stock and 4 Cylinder Truck divisions. After a several-year hiatus, the Sport Compact class will once again be in action.
