GJP Italian Eatery Returns To Proud Motorsports For 2018
Story By: CAMDEN PROUD / PROUD MOTORSPORTS – OSWEGO, NY – For the fifth consecutive season, GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego will return to ‘fuel’ Proud Motorsports and team drivers Camden and Tim Proud for the 2018 season at Oswego Speedway as well as on the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series.
Under new ownership for over two years now lead by Larry Miller, Nicky Loomis, and the Gunther family, GJP has become Oswego County’s one stop shop for Italian eats; a new customer favorite.
Miller and his staff, who have supported Proud since making his speedway debut in 2014, have built their award winning brand rather impressively. The inside of the restaurant, located in Oswego’s JC Penny plaza just off Route 104 and in walking distance from the speedway, has been remodeled to include additional seating, a new menu, and much more throughout the past two years.
In 2018, GJP will again provide the ‘fuel’ for the Proud Motorsports team and drivers both on and off the race track, fueling the Proud Chassis No. 54 Small Block Supermodified each week at Oswego Speedway while filling up drivers Camden and Tim with some of the restaurant’s top menu picks as well.
“Proud Motorsports could not be happier to welcome back GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego onboard for a fifth year of partnership as part of our dedicated effort to Small Block Supermodified racing,” said Camden Proud. “Race day would not be the same without having GJP, and we are grateful for the continued support from Larry, Nicky and the Gunther family over the past several years. My family and I have enjoyed watching GJP grow into one of Oswego’s top locations for quick service, dine-in and delivery. We’ve had the pleasure of participating in several special events and appearances there, and are fortunate to have the staff work so hard to ‘fuel’ our car on race days, as well as go the extra mile to support my Dad’s return to the driver’s seat on the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series as well.”
Last June, GJP was brought to the TV screen in the Syracuse market on popular television special ‘The Empire Plate,’ which airs on local channels. The Proud No. 54 machine also made an appearance on screen for a special ‘pizza delivery’ from Miller handed to Camden in the cockpit of his car, which also featured Proud’s memorable ‘promposal’ for his senior year at Oswego High School.
As part of a menu that screams ‘variety,’ GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego has a large list of gourmet specialty pizzas available that will make your mouth water including Meat Lovers, Veggie Red, Eggplant Parmigiana, Buffalo Chicken, Bruschetta, Cheese Lovers, Compognola White, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Chicken Riggie, Grandma’s Pizza, Supreme, Tomato Pie, and even Panini Breakfast Pizza available any time of the day.
‘Italian Classics’ such as Baked Penne, Chicken Parmigiana, Veal Parmigiana, Stuffed Shells, Sausage and Chicken Riggies, Baked Lasagna, Carbonaro, Chicken Marsala, Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo, and Spaghetti and Meatballs are all on the menu as well and customer favorites to boot.
GJP’s selections do not stop at Italian food, as their menu also features starter items such as French Fries, Buffalo Chicken Tenders, Mushrooms, Queso Bites, Onion Rings, and Mozzarella Sticks.
Their outstanding homemade wings include a choice of every sauce you could imagine, with everything from the traditional Hot Wing, to Honey BBQ, Garlic, Mango-Habanero, and Teriyaki. Wings at GJP are just $9.49 per the dozen, while a large New York Style Thin Crust Pizza is available for purchase for just $14.49.
If you are sub, sandwich, or wrap lover, GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego has you covered there as well, offerings both cold and hot one pound subs for just $7.99 with your choice of meat and toppings. Their cold sub selection includes Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef, Pepperoni, Salami, Capicolla, Veggie, Cheese, and hand cut Chicken Culet while the hot sub menu features Chicken Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, Meatball, Eggplant, Veal, and Chicken Parm, as well as Davis Bros Steak specialty sub from right here in Oswego. You won’t want to miss out on local customer favorites ‘The Classic Cold Cut,’ ‘The Philly,’ ‘Turkey Delight,’ and ‘Chicken Spiedie’ subs and sandwiches.
A date for the 2018 Camden Proud Chicken BBQ Fundraiser, also to be backed by GJP Italian Eatery, will be announced in the near future. All plans point to the event returning to team sponsor Lighthouse Lanes between the months of March and April. If you or your business would like to donate a raffle item or door prize to the event, please email a team representative at proudmotorsports@gmail.com.
GJP Italian Eatery of Oswego and Proud Motorsports will start the 2018 season by first taking to the Evans Mills Speedway with Tim as the driver in Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series events tentatively set for early May.
Opening Day at Oswego Speedway and the start to Camden’s season is scheduled for Saturday, May 26th 2018 which will see the lid lifter Jim Shampine and Tony White Memorial events for the Supermodified and SBS.
