Getting Ready To Experience The World Finals For The First Time
Column By: JOHN ZACHARY / RPW – CONCORD, NC – A couple weeks ago I was in Oswego, NY covering the crown jewel of Big Block Modified Racing in the Northeast. 1973 was my first ever SDW in Syracuse, NY. I absolutely love that event and always will no matter where it is held.
This week I am blessed to be able to attend my first ever World Finals at The Dirt Track in Charlotte, NC. For the next three days I will shooting and writing for Race Pro Weekly.
My wife Tammy has family about an hour from The Dirt Track in Charlotte, so she is spending time with them while I head south to cover this bucket list event.
I know crazy right? I get to spend three days watching the best drivers in three premier classes battle for their respected point championships in each series.
Matt Sheppard, and “The Franklin Flyer” Billy Decker will lock horns this week for the Super DIRTcar Series point title Donny Schatz looks to wrap up his ninth World Of Outlaw Sprint Car Series Championship. WoO Late Model drivers will also be crowning a Champion after a Saturday nights Race in Charlotte. Brandon Sheppard has a pretty good lead over second place driver Chris Madden, but you never know what can happen after three nightstands The Dirt Track.
Everything starts today and continues on until the finale on Saturday night. I have watched this Race on TV in the past, and have always wanted to see it in person, but could never make it happen. As I pack my camera bag up this morning the excitement is starting come over me anticipating all of action ahead of me this week.
I really look forward to seeing some of my hero’s, and some of the new stars of the sport through my lens this weekend.
Stay tuned for tons of images and my take on the World Finals in Charlotte.
Take care,
John
