Zych Hoping To Close Out Season With Win At Thompson

Column By: MATTHEW WIERNASZ / RPW – MENDON, MA – John Zych is excited to get back to the 55th Annual Sunoco World Series at Thompson coming up on the weekend of October 15. The NEMA Midgets will be apart of the weekend on Saturday of this weekend.

Zych is very excited to go back to the World Series that weekend as he feels its one of the best racing events of the year. Zych had a DNF back in the August race but knew he had the speed. He hopes when he goes back in a couple of weeks that he has the speed to be in contention for the win.

The NEMA championship race for both the Midgets and the Lites will be the Shane Hammond Memorial. Zych looks forward to this race every year. He always remembers Hammond having fun at the race track.

” Great spirit and great attitude. Something all of us should think about more often. His mother Deb has always been a supporter of NEMA and we are all grateful for that. Even to this day, she is an advocate for the racers.” Zych Said

When the NEMA Midgets have their race on Saturday, October 14 and if Zych wins. It would be a huge win for him and to honor Shane Hammond. For Zych, to end the year going out with a win heading to the off season helps out the mood heading into 2018.

Zych has had his ups and downs this season. He had got two wins at the Boston Louie Memorial at Seekonk and Wiscasset Speedway but has not been able to win since then. He has been out of the points battle since missing a race and the focus has been getting back to victory lane.

” The teams are so strong, combined with our handicap system. It is really hard to win these races. That is a good thing for competition. We just need to work that much harder to try to win.” Zych Said

NEMA was planning to race at Star Speedway this past Saturday night but Mother Nature had other plans. Zych hates to lose a race like that but late in the season, nobody had a choice.

” Weather can always be a question mark. Points are just important as week one as they are at the end of the season. This kind of thing can happen.” Zych Said

Zych feels the competitors in NEMA are great such as Randy Cabral, Avery Stoehr, Seth Carlson, Alan and Jim Chambers, and Paul Scally. Zych feels these competitors make it difficult to win and be up front on a week to week basis.

“Really good drivers in really good equipment. That’s why NEMA puts on a great show though. There are a bunch of guys that can win every week.”

NEMA will be apart of the 55th annual Sunoco World Series Of Racing at Thompson Speedway Motorsports with the Shane Hammond Memorial. The Midgets will have their race on Saturday, October 14 and the Lites will have their race on Sunday, October 15.
