Steve Hartman Turns Heads At Short Track World Championship
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – CONCORD, NC – After a great season at the Woodhull Raceway, Hartman Motorsports decided to compete at the Dirt Track at Charlotte for the 2nd Annual OneDirt Short Track World Championships.
Being one of the more under rated teams in the field of forty eight drivers, Steve Hartman III faced an uphill battle but that did not shred his hopes. Having been the first time seeing the track, Hartman turned tenth quickest time in the first practice session on Thursday. After a few adjustments, he then came out and turned fifth quickest beating out veterans such as Thompson, Pierson, and even Guererri.
With momentum heading into the first night of competition, Hartman turned fifth quickest in his group setting up for a good starting spot in his qualifying heat. The green flag flew and Hartman shot out of a cannon! He was able to muscle his way past Matt Steffenbagen on the start then at the half way mark he passed Anthony Stockman to secure third place and the final position for a redraw.
Though Steve Hartman III had lots of luck on his side, it quickly ran out. Drawing twelve for the redraw position in the feature, it believed to have sealed Hartman’s fate for the feature. Within three laps of taking the green, Hartman’s tires faded.
Although Hartman had finished in twentieth position, he proved his worth. Entering the weekend, Steve had never seen the facility before and did not know what to expect. After leaving Charlotte, Hartman noticed he had turned some heads of drivers and fans whom of which never had heard of the high school senior from Woodhull.
