DKM Fabrication Enjoys Success At Super DIRT Week
Story By: RYAN HILL / DKM FABRICATION – FULTONVILLE, NY – Super DIRT Week 46 is in the books, and for the team at DKM Fabrication it was a successful weekend that saw their Cyclone Chassis’ finish with a top 5 for Stewart Friesen in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 and Adam McAuliffe with a top 10 in the Chevy Performance 75.
Heading into the weekend the goal was to get a few of their Cyclone Chassis cars onto the racing surface and learn as much as they could. Super DIRT Week is an ever evolving event that has drivers, teams and manufacturers changing plans and adjusting all week long.
“The week prior to SDW we had built a brand new car for Friesen with a number of 2018 updates after bending the rear clip on his 2017 car at Fonda the week before,” said DKM partner Kyle Hoffman. “The schedule was tight and the ’18 car was originally going to be his backup car for Oswego.”
Billy The Kid Performance Engines also made some changes to the Halmar 44 car’s power plant, and after Friesen’s team decided to go with the Cyclone as the primary car for Sunday’s championship feature the hopes were high but unproven, especially considering the reigning Super DIRT Week champion would be starting 26th in a stout field.
Friesen, who was looking to capture his fourth consecutive victory in the event, was on the move all day. Working his way through the field on an ever changing track Friesen noted that changing cars is always hard, but after pit stops, good adjustments it was a good finish.
Friesen would finish the day crossing the line 4th, and for Hoffman that was a success. “Overall Stew and his crew did a great job, especially having never turned a lap in that car before. We are very proud of him and all of the other DKM cars we had out there this weekend.”
The sportsmans hit the track Sunday afternoon for the Chevy Performance 75 at Oswego Speedway, and Adam McAuliffe was another bright spot for DKM at Oswego Speedway bringing his Cyclone home with a 6th place finish.
Having done their homework this year Adam feels his weekend was a success. “The car was awesome, I feel like I was a top three car, I just couldn’t get past anyone because the track was locked to the bottom.” Adam adds that “I just want to thank the guys at DKM for the nonstop support and effort they put into getting my Cyclone to the front.”
Jessey Mueller had some back luck in the 200, but Hoffman feels that the future is bright for the driver out of Chestertown, NY.
“We are really looking forward to the 2018 season with him; he will be one to watch for sure,” he said.
