Devault Delivers World Short Track Championship Pro Sprint Victory
Story By: COLBY GORNIEWICZ / DIRTCAR – CONCORD, NC – The OneDirt World Short Track Championship Chevrolet Performance Pro Sprints Feature got off to a rough start with third-starting Zane Devault and polesitter Michael Summers getting together, with the latter spinning to a stop. Officials gave Summers his spot back, and he led the opening lap.
Canadian Ryan Hunsinger, who picked up the Longest Tow from the North Award earlier in the afternoon, worked the cushion by Josh Shantz for second and begun chasing down Summers.
Disaster struck for race-long leader Summers on lap 12 as he slowed, relinquishing the lead to Hunsinger. That was not the end of the excitement as Devault pulled even with Hunsinger for the lead with five to go.
Devault muscled the lead away from Hunsinger on lap 16 and went on to win by 1.390 seconds.
“This is a huge win for my guys. It’s awesome to win on such a big stage here at Charlotte,” the Plymouth, Indiana native said. Devault’s charge forward was also good enough to get the Hard Charger Award, earning himself a $150 Fox Racing Shox Certificate for the accomplishment.
Hunsinger and Shantz completed the podium with Eli Lakin and Tyler Fitzpatrick completing the top five.
As one of the nine Feature winners at the OneDirt World Short Track Championship, Devault also earned a new RACEQUIP helmet, courtesy of COMP Cams and DRIVEN Racing Oil.
