Allison Ricci Raising Awareness On & Off the Track For Breast Cancer Awareness

Story By: RYAN HILL / HALMAR RACING TEAM – NEW PALTZ, NY – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and across the nation there are individuals, schools, organizations, professional athletes, businesses and more working hard to raise awareness and fundraiser in the effort to educate women on the importance of early detection and helping to combat the disease that is reported to affect 1 in every 8 women born in the United States.

Allison Ricci is working hard again this October raising awareness and funds with the help of over 600 horsepower and a new paint scheme on her familiar Halmar #55 modified. Allison is using the pink paint scheme to draw attention to the work of Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation. Along with raising awareness of the foundation’s work Allison is selling special edition shirts and her race earnings from the month get donated to the foundation.

In 2016 Allison raised an impressive $5,300 for the foundation, but beyond the financial assistance she is able to share, the experiences she has raising awareness has been special to her.

“ I came across Miles of Hope through a close friend who had breast cancer. I asked her what organization is the best and she said Miles of Hope her very well and they were great people. I also wanted to work with them because all the money raised goes towards helping the people that have cancer. It means a whole lot to me knowing that I will be helping someone that needs the help in fighting this terrible disease. I was able to meet survivors at their community walk and a lot of people thanked me for raising awareness meant a lot.”

Miles of Hope’s mission is to provide funding to non-profit organizations for support services and outreach for people affected by breast cancer in the Hudson Valley, New York. They are a 501-c-3 public charity established in 2004 and founded by Dana Effron and Cathy Varunok.

The special pink Halmar #55 hit the track at Afton Motorsports Park for the Short Track SuperNationals 10 event. The weekend proved to be a success for Ricci, especially considering it was her first race in the Modified event against a potent field of drivers.

“We did pretty well at the SuperNationals 10” Ricci said. “I started on the pole in the heat race and raced side by side with Tommy Meier for 4 laps which was pretty cool.”

Allison would win the heat race which landed her in the redraw, and would fire off from the 10th starting spot when the main event began. Ricci finished the night in 13th, but was happy to have finished the race in one piece, especially considering 60 cars battled to try to earn a spot into the event.

Allison will race next Thursday October 19th in The Behrents Performance Warehouse ‘Hard Clay Open Final’ at Orange County Fair Speedway (OCFS) , as well as the 100 lap Small Block Modified event during OCFS’ Eastern States Weekend on Saturday October 21st.
