When Opportunity Knocked, Ronnie Williams Answered; Will Finish Out Whelen Mod Tour For ’17

Column By: MATTHEW WIERNASZ / RPW – SEEKONK, MA – Ronnie Williams is planning to finish out the 2017 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season. Its been fun for Williams racing on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

” Its been a fun time here and we’ve had good runs. Its a great group of guys that we’re with the Bertuccio crew. The opportunities are happening and making the most out of it.” Williams Said

The deal came together when crew chief Stash Butova worked with the Bertuccio crew down in Florida and when J.R. Bertuccio could not race anymore. They asked if Williams would drive the car and its turned into good things for him. Williams had a chance to race at Bristol Motor Speedway for the team and the only time he thought he would get a chance to race Bristol was playing it on the Playstation but to Williams experiencing the tracks like Bristol and New Hampshire Motor Speedway and to see the big names in NASCAR is almost a dream come true for him.

The Bertuccio family hails down in Long Island. Once a week Williams his crew chief Stash Butova and another crew member will go down to the shop where its a whole day trip but worth it to Williams.

The chemistry has been good between the driver and crew. Williams feels as the races go on, the bond will get stronger with him and his team.

There is not a lot of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races remaining on the 2017 schedule but the race Williams is looking forward to is when they visit Riverhead Raceway in Riverhead, NY this weekend. When the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour visited Riverhead back in June, Williams qualified second and the engine let go with about 40 laps to go in where he was running 5th. He is looking to redeem himself at Riverhead.

The plan for Williams the rest of the season is to run the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour along with the SK Modified at Stafford Motor Speedway. He may bring out his own car for the Sunoco Modified division at the World Series at Thompson next month.

His goals for the year are to win the SK Modified championship at Stafford and get a win on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be back at Riverhead Raceway this Saturday, September 16.
