Lucas Oil LM Doubleheader At Brownstown This Weekend
Story By: JEREMY SHIELDS / LUCAS OIL LATE MODEL DIRT SERIES – BATAVIA, OH – The stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series are en route to Brownstown Speedway and will tackle the quarter-mile bullring this coming Friday-Saturday, September 22nd-23rd for the 38th Annual Jackson 100.
The defending LOLMDS National Champion, Scott Bloomquist will return to defend his Jackson 100 title. In 2016, Bloomquist led 97 laps of the 100-lap main event to win his sixth-career Jackson 100. Trailing Bloomquist to the finish line was Jimmy Owens, Darrell Lanigan, Tim McCreadie, and Chris Simpson. The stars of the LOLMDS are once again expected to battle a strong contingent of local and regional standouts.
The festivities will kick off on Friday night, September 22nd with a Tribute to Steve Barnett. A full program is on tap, which includes: Hot Laps, Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 30-lap, $7,000-to-win main event. Racing action on Friday night will also include the 5th Annual Bowman 50, which pays $2,000-to-win for Indiana Pro Late Models, as well as a complete program for Pure Stocks.
Steve Barnett, who began his racing career in 1975, is recognized as one of the most accomplished short-track drivers in Indiana history. Barnett, a longtime Brownstown Speedway Late Model racer, announced his retirement earlier in 2017 to focus on his duties as mayor of his hometown of Franklin, Indiana.
On Saturday, September 23rd a Dirt Racing Outreach Service will take place at 3:30pm, followed by a Driver Autograph Session at 4:30pm. Then, the 38th Annual Jackson 100 will feature a complete program of Hot Laps, Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 100-lap, $15,000-to-win finale for the LOLMDS. The Open Wheel Modifieds and Super Stocks will also be in competition on Saturday night.
