Lucas Oil Late Model Stars Have Georgia On Their Mind

Story By: JEREMY SHIELDS / LUCAS OIL LATE MODEL DIRT SERIES – BATAVIA, OH – As the 2017 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series season nears a close, the stars of the nation’s premier dirt late model tour will return to the Peach State this weekend. The nation’s top dirt late model drivers will battle in two back-to-back, action-packed events at Dixie Speedway on September 30 and Rome International Speedway on October 1.

The two historic ovals have been pillars on the LOLMDS tour since its inception in 2005. Known as the “Home of the Champions,” both venues provide some of the finest racing action in the country – which has drawn record-breaking attendance in 2017.

Dixie Speedway is a 3/8-mile semi-banked, clay oval located in Woodstock, GA. The Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout on Saturday, September 30 will feature a complete program of: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 60-lap, $12,000-to-win main event for the LOLMDS. In 2016, Dale McDowell claimed his first Dixie Shootout in over a decade, taking the lead on lap-43 from Tim McCreadie. Trailing the duo to the finish line was Scott Bloomquist, Brandon Overton and Darrell Lanigan.

Recognized as the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile Oval,” Rome International Speedway is located in Northwest Georgia at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains – providing fans with beautiful landscape views in addition to the high-speed, door-to-door racing action. On Sunday night, October 1st the Lucas Oil Rome Showdown will include: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win main event. Scott Bloomquist will return as the defending race winner – after claiming the victory in 2016 – ahead of Don O’Neal, Brandon Overton, Chris Madden, and Jonathan Davenport.
