Lancaster Set To Crown Track Champions This Saturday Night

Story By: DAVE BUCHANAN / LANCASTER SPEEDWAY – LANCASTER, NY – This Saturday night Lancaster National Speedway will crown its X-Press Signs Stock Car Series champions for the 2017 season. With two of the three track titles still up for grabs, every point will be crucial and each position could determine who will take home the track crowns.

The closest battle is in the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders where Bobby Woch leads Jason Anasiewicz by a single point. Anasiewicz dominated the early part of the season with four wins in the first six races, but Woch has strung together consistent finishes and three wins to take a slight lead into the final week. Third place Dan Dressel is mathematically alive, but is 39 points behind Woch.

The Sunoco Sportsman title race comes down to three young guns going after their first championship. Shawn Nye holds a 28 point lead over Kevin Miller and 45 point advantage on Owen Bednasz. The second generation standout, Nye, has accumulated his first two career wins this season, and is poised to take home the championship after Saturday.

The one track championship that has been decided is the Advance Auto Parts Street Stock title. Nine-time feature winner, Rich Sharpe, has sewn up his second career championship with a week to spare as his 99 point lead over Mark Hoch is enough to lock up the crown.

While the top two spots in the Street Stocks are locked down, the rest of the positions inside the top five are up for grabs. Keith Flanigan, Max Northem, Tommy Wentland and Ken Maltby are separated by just 18 points.

Racing starts at 6:30 p.m.on Saturday with the NYPA TQ Midgets joining Lancaster’s three home track divisions. Adult general admission is just $13 with kids 11 and under free.

Lancaster National Speedway closes out the 2017 stock car season during the 29th annual U.S. Open weekend on September 22-24.
