Brad Babb Clinches 350 Super Championship At Star Speedway

Column By: MATTHEW WIERNASZ / RPW – EPPING, NH – Brad Babb entered into his full year of open wheel racing by racing in the 350 Supers at Star Speedway. The Windham, ME driver clinched the 350 Super championship along with the rookie of the year back on September 16.

” It really means a lot. I’ve wanted to race something open wheeled for pretty much my whole life, so to finally get the opportunity was really cool and it was awesome to be able to win the championship as a rookie.” Babb Said

Babb was involved in a wreck during the heat race after going into the wall hard at an angle on the left side. He got the car to slow down but where he hit it stopped abruptly. It hurt his ribs and shoulder. Babb knew he needed a few points to clinch the championship. Babb’s crew worked hard to get the car rolling again. There was still some problems with it but it was good enough to start the race. Once he started the feature, he realized the car was not handling too badly and made his way to finish second.

The 350 Supers had some tough competition. Babb thought Matt Seavey was a good driver as he and Babb had some great battles on the track this year. He also felt that Stephen Douphilly has improved a lot and turned into a good pretty show.. He is also good friend with fellow 350 Super competitor Bobby Timmons and Babb thought it was cool to race with him again this year and to see him get his first win in a few years.

Babb is unsure of when his next race will be but is planning to attend the Sunoco World Series of Racing at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in the Granite State Pro Stock Series in a couple weeks.

” I’ve always run good at Thompson and never been able to pull off the win so I’m hoping this might be my year.” Babb Said

Babb felt the biggest difference between racing open wheel and a full fender car is how deep you can a supermodified drive into the corner and how quick they turn. The cars are so lighter than a stock car. and have a lot of downforce where it is pretty much glued to the track and compared to what he is used to driving

There wasn’t many downs to the season for Babb but a lot of ups. He won six races which was huge to him including winning the night of the Star Classic. That is one win he will never forget.
