NHMS To Host “Super Bowl” Of NASCAR Touring Series Next Fall

Column By: AMY HARROP / RPW – LOUDON, NH – After receiving the news from NASCAR that New Hampshire Motor Speedway would lose its playoff race to Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2018, David McGrath, General Manager of NHMS, decided to take action.

The rumors have been swirling since the announcement was made early in the season, leaving murmurs about what (if anything) will take its place.

Today, race fans got the answer that they were long awaiting. It was announced this afternoon that the track will host a 3-event race weekend on the third week of September in 2018, which is the same weekend that the Cup Series event is held every season. The track will host a 250-lap Whelen Modified Tour race. This will be the series’ longest race to date. In addition to the Modified race, the track will be hosting a global K&N Series event, where drivers from the K&N East, K&N West, PEAK Mexico and the Whelen Euro Series will come together. Finally, the track will be welcoming the Pinty’s Series, which is the premier NASCAR touring series in Canada. This will be the first U.S.-based event for the series.

Whelen Modified Tour stars Doug Coby and Timmy Solomito were both on hand for the announcement, which was also a surprise to the two drivers. Doug Coby expressed excitement when talking about the event, stating that it “definitely” isn’t going to be a boring race. He said that the Whelen Modified Tour event is always the “most exciting” event of the weekend due to the constant lead changes and the side-by-side racing. “This is a big step for the NASCAR touring series…it’s pretty exciting to have this opportunity,” Doug said. Timmy Solomito was also in favor of the announcement, saying, “Change is always a good thing…it brings excitement to our series.”

Both drivers present during the official announcement guaranteed everyone in attendance that this event is going to be special. “You put us in the spotlight, we’re going to take advantage of that,” Doug added. “It’s going to be the new ‘not-to-miss’ event in the fall,” David McGrath said, adding to the excitement. McGrath expects this event to bring fans to NHMS from New England and beyond, anticipating to have 15,000 fans in attendance for the inaugural event next Fall.
