With Premature End To Season, Olden Dwyer Sets Sights On 2018
Story By: RYAN HILL / RPW – BENNINGTON, VT – Early August was not the planned end of the season for Olden Dwyer and the 88 team at Lebanon Valley Speedway.
In the heat race on August 5th Olden lost his brakes and hit the turn 3 wall. The wreck destroyed the car, and the team’s season. Barring someone offering a ride for the remainder of the season Olden has decided to call it quits for 2017, but has already begun planning for the 2018 season in earnest.
“Unfortunately, we have to call it a year” Olden said. “We have ordered a new Hig Fab Chassis for next year already, and hopefully we can pick it up in a few weeks. Our goal is to build one brand new car for 2018, it was a very hard decision for the entire team to make, but I feel financially it is our best decision, as most of our racing budget comes from our family, which makes it hard to bounce back after wrecking that badly.”
In 2017, Olden had been racing both the small and big block modified classes at Lebanon Valley, where he picked up a win in the small block while having a solid point’s season. The team will be focusing on big block racing in 2018.
“Our plan is to have one car next season at Lebanon Valley, which will be a big block, but we also hope to race some other shows throughout the year” Olden said.
Olden plans to sell his TEO chassis and small block motor to focus on the HIG FAB big block car. While 2017 ended prematurely, Olden is grateful for what he and his team has accomplished this season.
“We did get to stand in victory lane once this season with my Bedell small block in the HIGFAB car. I have to thank my sponsors for their commitment to me, and of course I would like to thank my team for all their hard work this year.”
