Prestige & $10,000 Awaits Winner Of Forrest Rogers Memorial At Grandview
Story By: ERNIE SAXTON / GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY – BECHTELSVILLE, PA – Winning the Forrest Rogers Memorial Modified Classic sponsored by Pioneer Pole Buildings carries a great deal of prestige not to mention at least $10,000 for the winner. The 50-lap Classic, showcasing some of the top talents in the sport, is set to take place on Saturday with qualifying events set to start at 7:30 p.m. on the one-third-mile banked clay oval of Grandview Speedway.
Craig VonDohren tuned up for the annual Classic by winning his 101st NASCAR Modified feature race last Saturday. He has won the Rogers Memorial seven times and the last two years in a row. The current TP Trailers 358 Modified point leader will go off as a huge favorite.
With at least $10,000 going to the winner of the 50-lap TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified stock car feature race interest is running high. The race remembers the man who had the idea, put together the plan, and built the one-third-mile, banked clay speedway. The Rogers family continues to keep the track operating as one of the most successful NASCAR weekly short track racing facilities in the nation for 55 years.
The 50-lap Modified classic, sponsored by Pioneer Pole Buildings, will reward the winner with $10,000 in cash and a strong field of racing talent is expected to be on hand to try, through qualifying events, to make it into the starting field. Heading up the list of VonDohren challengers will be ten time track champ Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard, Mike Gular, Doug Manmiller, Frank Cozze and a host of others. A win by any of the top point chasers could have a significant impact on the point chase. However there are several talents such as Ray Swinehart, Kenny Gilmore, Kevin Hirthler, and others that will be looking for a win in the rich classic. Of course for $10,000 there could be some visitors showing up to grab the top prize. New Yorker Danny Johnson did just that a couple seasons back as did New Jersey’s Ryan Godown.
The winner, provided he meets sponsor requirements, can also pick up additional awards from VP Racing Fuels and TP Trailers and Truck Equipment of Limerick.
Also included in the action filled night of NASCAR stock car racing will be the BRC Late Models and the Sportsman.
Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. with spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. The weekly Low Down and Dirty Meet & Greet will feature Pioneer Pole Buildings sponsored drivers Craig VonDohren, Chuck Schutz, Kevin Hirthler and Brian Hirthler. Meet & Greet starts at 5 p.m. in the main gate area.
Adult admission for the Classic event is $25 while youngsters 6 through 11 pay $5 and those under 6 are admitted free.
Coming up on August 12th is WNPV Radio Night. What was a huge success last year will happen again. Geiswite Creations will be holding their 4th Annual Back to School Giveaway.
As of right now the first 100 school age kids through the gate will receive a folder, notebook, and 2 pencils. There are also some drivers donating backpacks to be raffled off to the kids as well.
Last year was a huge success. Giving away over 125 folder sets, 122 backpacks and over $500 worth of school supplies.
Help us make this year bigger and better than last year.
