One Hot August For The Short Track Super Series Modifieds

Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – MILLBORO, DE – The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP fires into action with a “hot” month of August.

Three consecutive Tuesday nights (August 15, 22 & 29) will put competitors of both the Halmar International North Region and Velocita-USA South Region into overdrive as time winds down to the 2017 championships.

On Tuesday, August 15 (rain date: August 16), the STSS Halmar North Region big-block/small-block Modifieds venture to Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, N.Y., for the first time. Recovery Sports Grill presents the ‘Stampede at ‘toga’ paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag for 50 laps around the ‘Great Race Place’ managed by Lyle DeVore.

The inaugural trip to New York’s Capital Region by the series has piqued the interest of competitors from around the Northeast.

An open-wheel doubleheader program is completed by the King of Dirt (KoD) Sportsman racing for a $1,000 top prize.

Ted and Brandi White’s unique Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway comes to life on Tuesday, August 22 (rain date: August 23) with the ‘Hustlin’ the High Banks 53’ presented by NAPA Auto Parts, Maple City Dodge and Two Rivers Timber. This year’s visit is the third by the Halmar North Region to the high-banked, paper-clip-shaped oval.

The last two editions have been down-to-the-wire crowd-pleasers, with Stewart Friesen edging Dylan DeWert in 2015 and New Jersey’s Ryan Godown emerging from a lead-swapping battle a year ago.

STSS Modifieds race for $5,300 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag and are joined by GRIT Series Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,000 to win) and Mini-Stocks ($500 to win).

Delaware’s historic Georgetown Speedway is the next stop for the Velocita South Region on Tuesday, August 29 (rain date: August 30). K&B Auto of Delmar presents the ‘Blast at the Beach 4’ with $5,500 awaiting the winner of a 35-lap event offering $1,000 for 10th and $400 to start.

Previous ‘Blast at the Beach’ winners include Stewart Friesen (2016), Jordan Watson (2015) and Tyler Dippel (2014).

Also on the card are L&J Sheet Metal Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,000 to win), Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.
