Mallory Wins As Part Of Bob St. Amand Memorial At Merrittville

Story By: STEVE PETTY / MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY – THOROLD, ONT – “The Mongrel” Jay Mallory from St. Catharines, Ontario scored his second win of the season in the S&W Service Centre Sportsman at Merrittville Wednesday night. Rob Murray from St. Catharines, Ontario won his fourth Hoosier Stocks feature of the season, and third in a row. Tony Kelly from Niagara Falls, Ontario won his seventh feature of the season for the Central Fabricating 4 Cylinders.

Matt Farnham and Jay Mallory brought the field of S&W Service Center Sportsman to the green flag for their feature event with Farnham in the lead over Mallory, James Michael Friesen, Justin Sharp and Luke Carleton racing in the top five. Jay Mallory would take the lead away from Farnham on lap four and would start to pull away from the defending Ransomville Speedway track champion. Brad Rouse would work his way through the field and entered the top five after the midway point of the race. Farnham would close the gap on Mallory and work through lap traffic. Robbie Johnston would spin in turn two to bring out the caution with just one lap remaining. Mallory would lead the final lap to score the win. James Michael Friesen, Farnham, Brad Rouse and Justin Sharp completed the top five.

Jim Lampman took the lead off his outside pole position in the Hoosier Stock feature event. Lampman, Billy Bleich Jr, Dave Bailey and Vince Fargnoli went four-wide for the lead on lap three with Bailey taking the lead. James Thompson brought out the races first caution on lap four. On the restart, Bailey would jump back into the lead as Bleich raced in second and challenged Bailey for the lead. Bailey and Bleich would battle for the lead for several circuits as Dave Small raced in third place. Small would pass Bleich for second on lap nine, with Murray racing in third at the halfway mark. Murray would then go after Small and then pass Bailey to take the lead away on lap 11. With Murray out front, Small and Bleich battled for second with Bailey and Blake Bomberry raced in the top five. James Thompson spun for the second time to bring out the caution with three laps remaining. The late race restart would see Murray go on to score his third straight win, and fourth win of the season.

Tony Kelly and Tom Neale brought the Central Fabricating 4 Cylinders to the green flag for their main event with Kelly jumping into the lead with Alex Riley taking second away from Neale at the end of the opening circuit. Mike “Pinball” Giberson hit the wall in turn four to bring out the races first caution on lap two. The early race restart would see Kelly back into the lead over Riley and Jason Coutu. Coutu would take second away from Riley on lap three but Riley would regain it back on the following lap. Kelly would stretch his lead by the halfway mark over Riley and Coutu. Riley would start to close the lead that Kelly had over the field in the late going and would catch Kelly when the leader hit lap traffic with three laps to go. Kelly would hold off Riley to get the win. Jason Coutu, Austyn Werstroh and Jay Moulton completed the top five. “I didn’t know what the track was going to be like tonight but it was fast and am excited to be back in victory lane” stated Kelly in victory lane.

Fans were treated pre-race to the annual Pasta Dinner provided by Club Castropignano.

Merrittville Speedway will return to action on Saturday August 12th as Niagara Employment Help Centre presents the Bill Willard Sr Sterling Silver Sportsman event and Hoosier Stock Duel on the Dirt Home Track Race number two and the popular Kids Box Car Races! A full Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series will also be presented. Pit gates open at 5:00pm, grandstands at 5:30pm with Showtime beginning at 7:00pm.
