Lancaster To Close Out Season With Stellar September
Story By: DAVE BUCHANAN / LANCASTER SPEEDWAY – LANCASTER, NY – The 2017 racing season at Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway is headed into its final month and the on-track action is heating up.
Points battles for the Franco’s Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing Series and X-Press Signs Stock Car Series track championships will be decided during these crucial final weeks of the year.
September kicks off this Friday night, September 1, with a full card of Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing, including the Buffalo Street Outlaws. The championships in all four weekly classes are all up for grabs with just four races left.
The following Friday, September 8, is a bonus night for the Tread City Tire Street class plus an appearance by the TNT Hot Rod Series.
Saturday, September 9 is Season Championship Night for the X-Press Signs Stock Car Series. The 2017 track champions for the Sunoco Sportsman, Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks and Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders will all be crowned. The NYPA TQ Midgets will also be in action. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m. The raindate for Season Championship Night is Sunday, September 10 at 2 p.m.
On Tuesday, September 12, Lancaster will run the rescheduled $5,000-to-win Pro Modified Shootout. This special mid-week drag racing event will attract some of the top Pro Mod teams from the region in this “Chicago Style” Shootout. Two-time defending event winner Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada will be on hand looking to go for the “three-peat”. There will also be $1,000-to-win Box and No-Box Shootouts for Lancaster’s weekly bracket racers.
The power of car-crushing Monster Trucks returns to Lancaster National Speedway for the first time in several years on Saturday, September 16 with the stars of the Monster Truck Racing League. Six Monster Trucks will go head-to-head in a show that will be popular with fans of all ages. There will be more smashing and crashing with a Demolition Derby, which also makes a long overdue return to Lancaster.
Kids 11 and under are free for this family-friendly event. There will be a special pit party from 4-5:30 p.m. where fans can get up close and personal with their favorite Monster Trucks. The show starts at 6 p.m.
The following week (September 21-24) is Lancaster’s biggest party of the year with the 29th annual U.S. Open. The fun starts Thursday night with a full card of Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing in the next-to-last points race of the year.
The on-track excitement for the stock cars starts Friday, September 22 with practice plus the annual U.S. Open Kickoff Party featuring live music from Disco Duck. Saturday’s racing program is headlined by the 75-lap Sunoco Sportsman feature. The U.S. Open 125 for the Race of Champions Modified Series takes the green flag on Sunday afternoon.
Lancaster National Dragway closes out the month on Friday, September 29 with the points finale for the Franco’s Pizza Drag Racing program. The class champions in Mallare Enterprises Top, McGard Mod, Hebeler’s Sales Bikes & Sleds and Tread City Tire Street will be crowned during this final event of the season.
Wednesday Cruise Nights also wrap up during September with the final one scheduled for September 13.
