Joey Payne Returns To Oswego Speedway Saturday Night
Story By: RYAN HILL & JIM BEST / DIRTY JERSEY POSSE RACING – FAIR LAWN, NJ – Three weeks after his last appearance at Oswego Speedway, the “Jersey Jet” Joey Payne returns to Oswego this Saturday for what will be the final shakedown of the potent Penix Racing/Payne Motorsports/Dirty Jersey Posse #14 before the Budweiser International Classic.
With the car being maintained in New Jersey, the team has focused on the TCCS series this year in an effort to learn about the car while not having to haul five hours plus every weekend.
Currently Payne is sixth in points in the Bentley Warren Driver of the Year standings and third in points in the Jim Shampine Supermodified of the Year standings. With the International Classic being a double point’s show, a good finish would vault the Fair Lawn, NJ driver up the TCCS leader board.
Driver Joey Payne explains, “This Saturday will be a brush up for the classic. After this race we will tear the car apart and go through every part to ensure we have no failures for the classic. I’m happy with the car so far this year; we are just searching to make the car the best it can be.” 2017 would mark the 21st start in the Classic for Payne, where he has a career 6 top 5 finishes.
Car owner Don Penix has been extremely busy this summer with his Fresno, CA based company, NH3 Plus Industrial Refrigeration Parts and Service, and has only been able to get back east a couple of times this season. 2016 marked Penix’s first International Classic as he raced his orange #3 in the ISMA Supernationals show the night before. He will return to Oswego this year as car owner of the 14, with hopes of winning the Classic title.
