Huge Night Of Racing On Tap Saturday At Five Mile Point
Story By: ANDREW HARPELL / FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY – KIRKWOOD, NY – Over 67 years of existence Five Mile Point Speedway has played host to virtually every type of event imaginable.
On Saturday, Modified driver Joey Colsten and his wife Adrien will take part in the first ever “Gender Reveal” at the speedway. A big night of racing is on the ticket for this Saturday night. It is the final “Youth Night” of the year meaning that all kids 17 years old and younger will be admitted FREE of charge! Racing begins at 6 p.m.
The rich history at Five Mile Point Speedway has meant a lot to generations of Southern Tier families over the years. The speedway has hosted weddings, birthday parties, memorial service, bachelor parties, every form of motorsports and even some rodeo’s. On Saturday, the speedway will host a first. Binghamton, NY Modified driver Joey Colsten and his wife Adrien will have a special event for their family and racing friends. They will have a unique “Gender Reveal” prior to the start of the Modified feature event.
The couple is expecting their first baby and wanted to include not only their family but the large number of race fans that follow their team. Prior to the start of the feature event Joey Colsten will fire up his Modified engine. Friends will place either pink or blue powder in the exhaust to signify the couple expecting a boy or a girl. When the motor starts, the powder color will reveal the gender of their first born. The couple will not know what the gender is prior.
Five Mile Point Speedway track owner Andrew Harpell commented, “We are honored to have the Colsten family even consider including all of us in their special moment.” He added, “The speedway has hosted so many personal events and these moments that remind us all of how special the speedway truly is to so many in the region.”
For race fans, it is a great discounted night of racing with a number of fan friendly promotions on the docket. It is the final Youth Night of 2017. All kids 17 years old and younger will be admitted FREE of charge. In addition, early arriving youngsters will receive a free checkered flag upon entering the speedway on Saturday.
It is a combination Community Night at the speedway. All town residents from Great Bend (PA), Susquehanna (PA) and Conklin, NY will be admitted in to the grandstand free simply by showing photo i.d. at the box office. Grandstand admission is only $10 both adults and senior citizens.
On the track, the action will be intense as this is the last of two final point races to determine the 2017 Track Championships. The action will include the return of the Xcel 600 Modifieds in a North Region touring event. The full card will also feature the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds, Crate Sportsman, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Lightning Cats and Slingshots.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 4 p.m. Practice begins at 5 p.m. with racing set to get underway at 6 p.m.
