Campbell Scores Career Best Fifth with All Star Sprints At Lincoln

Story By: ANTHONY CORINI / CAMPBELL RACING – FAWN GROVE, PA – 2016 National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year, Matt Campbell, had an impressive weekend with Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions; qualifying for the Dash on both nights he competed and coming away with a top-five at Lincoln on Saturday.

“I really enjoy running with the All Stars. I think they have the best format. Time trialing against your heat and lining up the B main heads-up help put the best drivers in the feature instead of the best qualifiers,” Campbell said.

The Fawn Grove teenager qualified third quick overall out of a stout field of 37 cars that signed at Williams Grove on Friday and finished fourth in his heat race, good enough to lock him into one of the two Dashes. Campbell was running a solid seventh with three laps to go before his hood came loose, preventing him from seeing. Matt safely guided his No. 16 to the pits.

Knowing they had speed from the previous night, Campbell headed to Lincoln with confidence. With 40 Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions signed in, Campbell time trialed fourth quick overall. Campbell finished second in his heat race, good enough to lock him into the Dash for the second consecutive night. Campbell finished third in the second dash, lining him up sixth for the feature.

Young Campbell stood toe-to-toe with the region’s finest drivers crossing the finish line a noteworthy fifth. Campbell and his team were extremely pleased with the effort. “I think this weekend helped us get back to how we should have been all year. Having unexpected problems haven’t made it a good season for us. This car has been fast all year, it just hasn’t shown. We hope to keep putting down runs like this and I don’t think that will be a problem going forward,” Campbell said.
