Britten Produces Strong Results After Four Days Straight Of Racing
Story By: MANDEE PAUCH / PETER BRITTEN RACING – WEEDSPORT, NY – Peter Britten is pleased with his results after four days straight of racing in New York and Canada.
Britten produced three-top ten finishes after four days of racing.
Britten’s week kicked off Tuesday evening at Ransomville Speedway with the Super DIRTcar Series.
Britten started third in his heat and finished fourth, missing the redraw by one spot.
“We were struggling a little bit out there,” he said. “I did what I could.”
Britten rolled out on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.
“I was really good,” Britten added. “Probably had a top-five car but the track was challenging and a little rough. I’d pass a few cars then I’d basically make a mistake or get a bad restart and lose a couple spots. It was a topsy-turvy race going backwards and forwards.”
Britten held on and capped the night off with a tenth-place finish.
“It was a lot of fun racing pretty hard with a lot of good guys,” he said. “We were probably better than that but it didn’t quite go our way.”
Britten and the No.21a team then went to Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario on Wednesday.
Britten finished third from his fourth-place starting spot, placing him in the top-twelve redraw.
Prerace draw saw Britten pull number seven for the main event.
“We had a decent car but happened to of lost a few spots at the start of the race,” he said. “We couldn’t seem to get going all that well.”
The more the race went on, the more the No.21a started to make gains.
“I started moving around and was finally able to find a line that would work for me,” he said. ”I was making my way back up in the field. I was good on the long runs but then a caution would come out and we weren’t that strong the first few laps then we would pick back up and a yellow would come back out.”
Britten closed the night off with an eighth-place finish.
“That was our best run I’ve ever had there. I walked away feeling content with the night. To be competitive with the small block guys, you know you’re doing something right.”
Thursday night was a last minute decision to head to Rolling Wheels and do some testing with the No.21a.
“The track is only a mile from my house,” added Britten. “I had a couple of things we needed to test. You can’t do much testing on the series race so this was the perfect opportunity to do that. We ran well but unfortunately didn’t fix the issues we were hoping to fix.”
Britten moved forward from his sixth-place starting spot to finish fourth.
Britten started the main event on the inside of the sixth row.
“The first half of the race Matt (Sheppard) was dominant,” he said. “I felt like I had a second place car at that point. The second half, I fell off.”
Britten noted tire issues came into play towards the remainder of the feature.
“It looked like mine were a little worse than other peoples,” he said. “That was the main contributing factor to me for falling back a bit. We had a little bit of luck though and ended up finishing third.”
Britten closed the week on Friday at his weekly home track, Albany-Saratoga Speedway.
Britten qualified sixth from his eighth-place starting spot.
Britten started 17th for the main event.
Britten felt they’ve been missing something the past couple of weeks and have yet to figure it out.
“It was a struggle the whole race,” he said. “I don’t know what we’re missing but we’re definitely missing something. Obviously the track championship is coming down to a wire. We just have to figure out what is going on and get moving. That’ll be the project for this week.”
Britten closed his four-day race week in 13th.
Britten still holds the point lead but his Friday night results helped close the gap for second-place runner, Keith Flach, at Albany-Saratoga. Britten now leads by just one point.
Britten is set to run a special show at Albany-Saratoga on Tuesday and then back to Albany-Saratoga on Friday for a regular points show.
