Anthony Losurdo Scores Classic 75 Seat In Castiglia Small Block Super
Story By: CAMDEN PROUD / OSWEGO SPEEDWAY – OSWEGO, NY – Come Budweiser Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway, there will be yet another accomplished Small Block Super veteran in the mix of over thirty cars already signed up to qualify for the 26th running of the Bud Light Classic 75 on Sunday, September 3.
Anthony Losurdo, who has notably been absent from competition all season long at the speedway, will return behind the wheel for the duration of Classic Weekend driving for Mark Castiglia, wheeling his No. 69 FFB Chassis, which has already seen action this year with both Castiglia and Rob Pullen behind the wheel.
A five-time Pathfinder Bank SBS feature winner, Losurdo is 22nd on the speedway’s all-time win list for the division and also the youngest driver to win a Small Block Super main event in Oswego Speedway history, doing so in June of 2014 driving his family owned No. 1.
After coming away with his first and second career wins in 2014 along with a third place effort in points, Losurdo caught the eye of car owner Denise Bond (Merrill) and ‘Hawk’ piloted a brand new Dan Dennie built Four Sevens Motorsports ride for two consecutive seasons in 2015 and 2016, driving to three more victories.
With a career best finish of sixth in the Classic put together last season, Losurdo hopes that changes next weekend as he looks to compete inside the top five, and hopefully for victory. There’s no doubt, taking a year off was not an easy decision for the Losurdo team and Anthony is very much looking forward to getting back on the track.
“Sitting out this season was a really tough decision for me,” Losurdo explained. “Putting racing on the back burner is something I’ve never wanted to do, but it had to be done. It’s just a part of growing up. The opportunity to run the biggest and most prestigious race of the year truly does mean a lot to me and I need to thank Mark Castiglia and his family for that, along with my entire family and my crew Stu, Zach and Jared for making this a possibility.”
While a win in the midst of one of the most widely recognized short track events in the country is surely in the back of Losurdo’s mind going into the 61st edition of Budweiser Classic Week, just being back behind the wheel at Oswego is good enough for the 19 year-old, who went down as the second driver in track history to sweep the speedway’s ‘Twin 20’s’ back in 2015.
“We are going into it just hoping to get the car rolling well, and hopefully by the end of the weekend that will put is in contention for a win,” offered Losurdo. “All in all, win or lose, I’m just excited to be back where I belong, behind the wheel at the Oswego Speedway.”
Losurdo and thirty other drivers will compete for ten qualifying spots straight into the Bud Light Classic 75 next Friday, September 1 as part of Central NY Chevy Dealers Bud Classic Weekend ‘Pole Day’ Qualifying. Preliminary action will conclude Friday night before the 26th running of the Bud Light SBS Classic 75 takes place on Sunday, September 3.
