Grant Opens Pennsylvania Midget Week With Win At Susquehanna

Story By: BRAD VORES / SUSQUEHANNA SPEEDWAY – YORK HAVEN, PA – The annual Pennsylvania Midget Week kicked off Sunday night with the AMSOIL USAC Midget Sunoco /Insinger Fuels Showdown at Susquehanna Speedway where it was Justin Grant coming away with the thrilling win in the 30-lap feature.

Aboard the Clauson Marshall owned Midget, the Ione, CA driver used a last lap pass on Spencer Bayston to pick up his second win of the 2017 season on the USAC National tour.

Tanner Thorson led the first five laps of the USAC feature before Brady Bacon assumed the top spot and continued to set the pace until lap 22 when his great run came to an end after slowing on the speedway.

This turned the lead back to Thorson who had Bayston on his tailtank. Thorson would hold the lead until lap 28 when Bayston drove into the lead as the white flag flew but Grant would steal the win
away on the final lap when Bayston and Thorson nearly took each other out while battling for the win.

Grant’s win was worth $3,500 as he took the checkered flag ahead of Thorson, Bayston, Shane Golobic and KSE Hard Charger Tanner Carrick, who started 14th.

Rounding out the top ten finishers were Chad Boat, Alex Bright, Holly Shelton, Brett Arndt and Trevor Kobylarz.

Tyler Courtney paced the 28-car field in time trials with a lap of 17.713 seconds while heat races were won by Courtney, Bacon and Thorson. Adam Pierson won the Last Chance Semi.

Tyler Walton led all 20 laps to score the win in the 600 Micro Sprint feature over Kameron Morral, Dexter Strawser, Zach Rhoads and Clayton Shaw.

Travis Horan picked up his first win of the season in the 20-lap Superior Homes Extreme Stock feature to become the fourth different winner this season.

Horan took the win over Patrick McClane, 12th starting Jeff Gill, point leader Alex Updegraff and Donnie Broderick.

Next weekend, August 19 and 20 will be another busy two night racing weekend at the York Haven oval as the Credit Connection Auto Sales Super Sportsman return to action joined by the Bernheisel Race Cars 358 Late Models, Morgan Paving/Aqua Fun Pools Street Stocks and Superior Homes Extreme Stocks on Saturday, August 19.
