Granite State Pro Stock Series Headed To Monadnock

Story By: KYLE SOUZA / GRANITE STATE PRO STOCK SERIES – WALPOLE, NH – The Granite State Pro Stock Series will celebrate the life and pay tribute to John Hoyt on Saturday night at Monadnock Speedway. The annual “JBH” 100 lap main event is set for the high-banks of Monadnock.

Hoyt, the co-founder of the series, unexpectedly passed away back in 2011 and this race was put together in his honor. Last year, series president Mike Parks won the race behind the wheel of his No. 66.

“To me, the JBH race is our biggest race of the year,” Parks said. “Without John pushing us to do the series, it really probably would never have even happened. Winning that event last year was a milestone in my career and I hope whoever wins this year’s race feels the same way.”

Entering Saturday’s 100-lap feature, the championship battle is starting to heat up with just five races remaining on the 2017 schedule. Mike O’Sullivan holds a 19-point lead on defending series champion Barry Gray to this point. Scott MacMichael is third, just 20 from the lead, while Nick Lascuola and Cory Casagrande currently round out the top five. Leaving Monadnock, the series will visit Oxford Plains Speedway on 250 weekend.

Last time out at Lee USA Speedway, Todd Stone visited the winner’s circle for the first time this time. Before that, Eddie MacDonald scored at New Hampshire and David Darling won at the third-mile Seekonk Speedway.

Entries for Saturday’s JBH 100 are coming in and all of the top championship contenders are expected to compete as they look to inch closer to capturing the title.

Outsiders coming in and hoping to challenge include former Oxford 250 winner Travis Benjamin, who will make his second start of the season. While Benjamin comes in as a driver who has already run with the GSPSS, Joel Monahan will make his debut on Saturday.

Other entries for the race include 2012 champion Bobby Cabral, both O’Sullivan brothers and many more. It will be a mix of regular series competitors up against some outside invaders.

This race is scheduled for a one-day show, with practice, qualifying and the race all scheduled for Saturday night. The pits open at 1 p.m., practice begins at 3 p.m. and heat racing gets underway at 6 p.m. For the grandstands, it costs adults just $20 to enter, with children ages 11-18 costing $18. Those 10 and under are free.
