Chemung Up Next For Race Of Champions Asphalt Modifieds

Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – CHEMUNG, NY – The Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series fueled by Sunoco rolls into Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome this Saturday night for the running of the Rod Spalding Classic “75”. After losing the first visit of the year due to inclement weather in May, this will be the only time the Series visits the unique short track in 2017.

Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., will roll into Chemung on Saturday coming off of seven consecutive victories. Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y., currently leads the championship standings in the Series and these two finished 1-2 in the series most recent event at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway.

“Chemung is a challenging place,” offered Hirschman. “Last year we didn’t fare so well there, but we have had success in the past. We’ll be looking to keep our streak rolling. It should be an exciting night of racing and with the big events going on in the area it will be nice to see some friends and family that we don’t always get to see all of the time. We are looking forward to it.”

The 75-lap race presents drivers with a sprint race, but at Chemung, while things happen quickly, drivers know that they need to use patience to be there at the end.

“Last year we won this race,” stated Patrick Emerling. “But we had some damage when the checkered flew. It’s a place where anything can happen and you have to be on your game. Everything comes into play to be successful at Chemung.”

The gates will open at Chemung Speedrome for fans on Saturday at 5:30 pm with the green-white-checker group qualifying sessions slated to begin at 6:00 pm.
