Tough Night For Paul Gilardi Saturday At Lebanon Valley

Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / GILARDI MOTORSPORTS – PITTSFIELD, MA – What looked like it was going to be a decent night for Paul Gilardi Saturday at Lebanon Valley went for naught as the Superior Seamless Gutters #87x had fuel issues and dropped out of the Modified main event with just a few laps left.

While running close to top 10, the fuel pressure gauge in Gilardi’s HigFab Chassis went to zero. Fearing any possible engine issues that could arise, he felt it was best to cut his night short.

“The fuel pressure went to zero, and not knowing why it happened, I didn’t want to starve the motor and burn something up,” Gilardi said. “I’d rather be safe and be able to race again next week then have a major engine failure because I stayed out.”

The problem ended up being a broken wire in the gauge itself, but better to be safe then sorry.

“We had a good car, but the rain early in the evening threw us for a little bit of a loop,” he said. “I thought the track was going to be greasy, but it turned out to be extremely tacky. Some guys really hit the setup like Keith (Flach) and (Kyle) Armstrong, but we’ll be better prepared for next week.”

To date, Paul remains 15th in the Modified point standings at the Valley, just 43 points outside the top 10. The next event for the team will be this Saturday at the Valley of Speed…the Maynard Forrette Memorial. This is a race that Paul won back in 2014. Gates open at 5pm.
