Moriarty Joins Oswego Supermodified Field For ‘Grand Prix’ 75
Story By: CAMDEN PROUD / OSWEGO SPEEDWAY – OSWEGO, NY – Arizona talent Joey Moriarty will be back in action at Oswego Speedway with the Total Seal, Hawk Jr. Chassis No. 51 Supermodified for the first time since Classic Weekend of 2016 as part of Saturday, July 1st’s 75-lap Novelis Supermodified Grand Prix.
After spending the offseason chasing dirt late model races in his home state and across the country, Moriarty, who finished 4th in the 1990 running of the Budweiser International Classic 200, has yet to reach Oswego victory lane with his family owned ride.
Since returning to the speedway in mid-2015, Moriarty has yet to score a top ten while also still searching for that first victory. The 51 finished 23rd in the 2015 Classic and 12th in the 2016 running.
Notably, Moriarty drove to a 12th place effort in the 2016 $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified event and in 2015, set the fourth fastest lap in Classic Weekend time trials with a lightning quick 16.045 second lap at 140.231mph.
Moriarty got test time in during last night’s Fast Friday, running mid to high 17 second laps.
“It was a good shake down, I’m happy to be back,” Moriarty said. “We found a few leaks, things we were looking for so overall it was a good test. We are looking forward to the weekend.”
Returning driver Bill Sharkey is also expected to be in action on Saturday night driving the Shark Motorsports No. 71 machine.
