Fonda Speedway Ready To Get Back To Racing This Weekend

Story By: RON SZCZERBA / FONDA SPEEDWAY – FONDA, NY – After suffering their fourth rainout of the 2017 racing season, the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway will be back in action on Saturday, July 8 starting at 7:00 p.m. featuring all divisions in action highlighted by the sportsman class who will run Twin 20 lap events.

Fireworks are also on the racing card and kids and adults alike can show their creative skills as it will be “Banner Night” so be sure to make up a banner featuring your favorite driver or drivers!

Looking at the current point standings which are posted on the Fonda Speedway website www.newfondaspeedway.com Stewart Friesen leads the modified division standing with 444 points based on three feature wins and six top five finishes. Tim Fuller is second with 424 points based on his career first win at Fonda back on 6/17 and seven top five finishes.

Defending track champion Ronnie Johnson is next in third place with 414 points with no feature wins, seven top five, and one top 10 finish. Bobby Varin with 392 points (one feature win, three top five, and six top 10 finishes) and Jeremy Wilder with 378 points (one feature win, two top five, and eight top 10 finishes) complete the top five in modified points through 6/24/17.

First time winners in the modified division in 2017 are Justin Boehler and Fuller.

Rocky Warner with 440 points leads the way in sportsman division points based on four feature wins, seven top five, and eight top 10 finishes. Chad Edwards is second with 400 points (no feature wins, five top five, and eight top 10 finishes) followed by Nick Scavia with 360 points (no feature wins, three top five, and eight top 10 finishes), Cody Clark with 360 points (one feature win, four top five, and six top 10 finishes), and Tim Hartman Jr, with 343 points (no feature wins, three top five, and seven top 10 finishes).

First time winners in the sportsman division at Fonda in 2017 are Harry Shaffer and Aaron Burton.

With a total of five feature wins, seven top five, and eight top 10 finishes Kenny Gates leads the way in pro stock points with a total of 477 points. Next in line is Chuck Dumblewski with 462 points (one feature win, seven top five, and nine top 10 finishes), Ivan Joslin with 391 points (one feature win, four top five, and six top 10 finishes), AJ Walters with 382 points (no feature wins, four top five, and seven top 10 finishes), and Jim Normoyle with 328 points (no feature wins, two top five, and four top 10 finishes).

Currently there are no first time winners in the pro stock division at Fonda in 2017.

Johnny Young leads the street stock points standings with a total of 442 points (one feature win and eight top five finishes), followed by Cliff Haslun with 422 points (two feature wins, five top five, and eight top 10 finishes), Jim Groncki with 398 points (no feature wins, seven top five, and eight top 10 finishes), Steven Young with 376 points (no feature wins, three top five, and eight top 10 finishes), and Harold Chadderden with 328 points (no feature wins, one top five, and seven top 10 finishes).

There have been no first time winners in the street stock division at Fonda so far in 2017.

William August is the point leader in the limited sportsman division with 330 points based on one feature win, five top five, and six top 10 finishes. EJ McAuliffe is second with 322 points (two feature wins, five top five, and six top 10 finishes), Larry Niemiec with 320 points (one feature win and six top five finishes), Kathy Bellen with 310 points (two feature wins with her career first coming on 5/20/17, five top five, and six top 10 finishes), and Mike Block with 218 points (two feature wins and four top five finishes).

Bellen, McAuliffe, August, and Niemiec are all first time winners in the division at Fonda so far in 2017.

The cruiser division has run a limited schedule at Fonda so far in 2017 with the current point standings currently led by Ken Hollenback with 248 points (one feature win, four top five finishes, and five top 10 finishes). Pat McSpirit is second with 246 points (no feature wins, three top five, and four top 10 finishes), followed by Chris Andrew with 228 points (one feature win and four top five finishes), Zach McSpirit with 224 points (no feature wins, one top five, and four top 10 finishes), and Kerrie Hollenback with 214 points (one feature win and four top five finishes).

First career wins at Fonda in the cruiser division have gone to Andrew and PJ Bleau who has two feature wins at Fonda in 2017.

The Fonda Speedway Museum is a must see for all fans who have called Fonda Speedway their home track.
