Another Top Three Finish Sets Up Schroder To Hit Goals
Story By: RYAN HILL / KOLBY SCHRODER RACING – STAATSBURG NY – Lebanon Valley Speedway rained out twice in the last two weeks heading into July15th’s slated night of racing, and race teams and fans were eager to see the ground pounding modifieds come to life this Saturday on the high banks.
Kolby Schroder and the Top Notch Builders #99 Kolby Schroder Racing Big Block Modified teams were one of these teams ready to get back to racing. Kolby started the season with high hopes for the 99 team after a 2016 season that found him finishing the season with a top ten in the Lebanon Valley Speedway’s points championship, but not a season that was good enough for him or his team.
Saturday was another good night for the 99 team, rolling out of the trailer the 99 was pretty fast, and Kolby was able to carry that momentum winning his heat race where he took the lead in the first turn and pulled out to a half straightaway lead.
“We had a minor issue in hot laps that we were able to fix before the feature” Kolby said. “Our car was good in the feature, just not good enough to beat Kyle Sheldon and the 42 team. I could hang with the 42 but that’s about it. The right rear tire came apart during the last five laps and Keith Flach’s fast charging 43 car got me.”
Kolby finished the feature in third place, and the 99 team was pleased with the night, as they feel they had a good run, and Saturday was also a good points night. Kolby is currently sitting in 6th place in the Lebanon Valley points championship, very close to where the 99 team wants to be heading into the backstretch of the season.
“We are very happy with the speed the car has right now. A top 5 points season is our goal and I believe we can achieve that” Schroder said.
While Kolby has finished well so far in 2017, and is pleased with where the team sits in the points, finishing well is bittersweet, as coming close to the first win of 2017 has been close but evaded the team so far.
“We really want a win” Kolby said. “It is frustrating being so close and, not being able to get one yet this year. If our car stays fast week after week the win will eventually come.”
The Top Notch Builders 99 team is positive right now, and with the weekly goal to win or roll over the scales in the top 5 Kolby says that the crew is happy and so is he.
“We are pretty much in the hunt every week so our confidence level is high, and we are hoping for the good runs to keep coming.”
Kolby Schroder will race next this Saturday July 22nd at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, NY.
