Rob Maxon Keeps Rolling With Another Solid Top 10 Weekend

Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / MAXON RACING – POWNAL, VT – The more Rob Maxon races, the more experience he gains as a driver. That was the reason behind the Maxon Racing team’s decision to run Glen Ridge on Sunday nights. It’s really paying off, as last weekend, Maxon brought his #96 Bicknell home in the seventh position.

After finishing second in his heat race on the fast quarter-mile track, Rob started the feature in fourth. Even with some early race troubles, he kept his nose clean and brought home a solid finish.

“I felt the car was good early in the evening,” he said. “In the feature, we fell back a bit, but all in all, we held our own and had a decent run.”

Running different tracks helps the young driver learn how to adjust for varying track conditions. Sometimes you make the right calls, and sometimes you miss. Sunday at the Ridge, Maxon and the team missed the setup by the narrowest of margins

“The car was a bit loose on corner entry, which allowed some guys to get underneath us,” he said. “We have to find a happy medium on the brakes to get into the turns a little straighter, but I’m happy with a seventh, as every week we’re improving.”

Being that 2017 is the first year that Maxon is running the Ridge on a more consistent basis, the Pownal, VT driver has had to learn a bit more about the tight confines and fast-paced nature of racing at the Montgomery County NY oval.

“The toughest part of racing there is not having the crew help at the track with how fast the night goes by,” he said. We don’t have a lot of time to make changes. We’re getting better though. Each week we’re learning and we’re making the necessary changes at the shop. It seems to be working.”
