Mother Nature Wins Sunday At The Ridge
Story By: GLEN RIDGE MOTORSPORTS PARK – FULTONVILLE, NY – Despite best efforts to shake off a pair of thunder showers Sunday afternoon, Glen Ridge Motorsports Park ‘New Era’ Opener checkers fell to mother nature. There was a silver lining to the story, as drivers turned out in support of the fastest ¼ mile on dirt.
Sixteen Crate Modifieds signed in at ‘The Ridge’ Sunday including former track champion Rocky Warner with the Jake Spraker Used Cars 1J. Former track champion JaMike Sowle was on hand with the Sowle Trailer Repair 711, Tim Hartman Jr. had the Parillo Services 22 ready for action, and Chad Edwards had the Spencer Racing 37 in house.
Point leader Chris Curtis was in attendance with a new teammate in Whitey Slavin, who will pilot the Lindell Fuels 35w. Perhaps the most intriguing entry was Albany-Saratoga Modified track champion and King Of Dirt Racing 358 Modified Point Leader Marc Johnson. He was set to pilot the Gary Derocher owned Electric City Taxi 10d.
All-time leader in Limited Sportsman wins at ‘The Ridge’ belongs to Mike Jackson, who was ready to roll for the Shaffer Racing Team. Former track champion Lenny Billings was happy to be back on the hill and two-time feature winner Kathy Bellen was also ready to tackle the Limited Sportsman division at Glen Ridge. Young gun and Lebanon Valley announcer Marty Kelly joined Colin Clow, Bill August, Mike Parodi, John Linblade, and others were ready to ring in the new era.
Gus Hollner led the Pro Stock drivers along with fellow area business owner Todd Hoffman. Norm Loubier ventured over from the great race place and Jason Samrov ventured up from Fonda. Lebanon Valley regular Sparky Reilly was ready for some short track action along with Joslin, Stone, and more for a total of ten full-fender drivers on hand.
It was a great sign of things to come with 16 Crate Modifieds, 10 Limited Sportsman, 10 Pro Stock, 14 Sling Shots, 11 POWRi Midget Sprints, and 9 4-Cylinder Mini Stocks ready to go.
Next Sunday all who saved their wrist bands will be able to use them, as Glen Ridge will try again to open a new era at the fastest ¼ mile on dirt. Also anyone who obtained a rain check for the stands will also be able to use them to re-enter. Crate Modifieds, Limited Sportsman, Pro Stock, 4-Cylinder Mini Stock, Sling Shots, and ELS Mini Sprints will be on hand.
Admission Prices are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $2 for kids 11 and under.
