Jeff Trombley Rallies Late For Utica-Rome CRSA Victory
Story By: EDWARD KOCHERSBERGER / CRSA – VERNON, NY – The atmosphere was turbulent at Utica Rome Speedway on Sunday evening. The weather went from clear skies to storm threats in the matter of an hour. The action on the track was also intense. The CRSA Sprint Tour presented by Super Gen Products with Champion Power Equipment created an incredible show for race fans. This evening would prove to provide some of the best side-by-side racing and passing opportunities that they have seen all season.
Kyle Smith and Emily VanInwegen would bring the twenty-one car field to the green flag of Utica Rome Speedway’s Head Starter, Matt Burdick. Smith would quickly jump out to an early lead and maintain it through the early stages of the twenty lap main event.
The stories of big movers throughout this event can be captured through two different drivers. Lake Ariel Pennsylvania’s Eddie Strada was one of those drivers. Strada would surge towards the front of the field with his Norwegian Builder and Excavator number one car. Eddie started from position twelve. He would have been the recipient of the Profab Enterprises fifth and sixth row winner bonus if he won the event. This bonus is now up to $140. Strada would fight for the lead but fell out of the event late due to mechanical failure.
The other big story of the evening would come from the number nine JGS Hauling and Recycling Car of Josh Pieniazek. Josh wrestled the lead from Kyle Smith on lap eight and would not look back through the halfway portion of the event. He seemed to have the best car on this evening. But it is safe to say that Josh could also be a hard-luck award candidate. A spinning 67F lapped car of Frank Connelly would collect Pieniazek on lap twelve. This would result in Josh flipping his car in turn two and ending his evening while leading the event.
This turn of events at the front of the field would give way to a fresh battle for the lead between the defending Series Champion, Kyle Smith, and the 3A Warren’s Auto Body car of Jeff Trombley. Smith would maintain the lead until lap 17. Smith would lose the handle of his car enough to leave the racing surface for a short time coming out of turn two. Jeff Trombley took full advantage of the opportunity. He would point his car to the bottom side of Kyle Smith, make the pass, and never look back.
This would be Jeff Trombley’s first win of the 2017 CRSA Sprint Tour Season and yet another win added to his highly successful racing career.
“The track got a little challenging. You had to bounce around on the track a little bit to find where your spots were. The car was good. The guys did a great job. I gotta thank Warren Alexson and Johnny Grant. It has been a busy week. They did great!”
The CRSA Sprint Tour presented by Super Gen Products with Champion Power Equipment will now head south and slightly east to the Orange County Fair Speedway this Saturday, June 24th. Middletown New York’s Thomas Radivoy picked up the feature win the last time the CRSA Tour visited the Hard Clay. This will also be round three of the Hard Clay Challenge Series that is presented by the following marketing partners:
Johnny’s Service Station
Chuck Alessi Heating and Plumbing
Neiger’s Service Center
Hennessy Wine and Liquor
