Bartlett Finds Victory Lane Friday Night At Brewerton
Information By: DAVE MEDLER / BREWERTON SPEEDWAY – BREWERTON, NY – On Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway Ryan Bartlett out of Watertown, NY was able to shake off early season disappointment as he picked up his second career Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature win.
Bartlett grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and led every lap in the caution free 35 lap feature in dominating fashion, winning by over two-seconds at the finish against a star studded field.
Other winners on Collectibles Galore night were, Todd Root (Sportsman) Casey Sykes (Mod Lites), Chris Bonnoffski (4-Cylinders).
Ryan Bartlett out raced Mike Mahaney to lead the early going of the 35 lap Modified feature as the racing behind the top two was two and three wide in battles for position.
With 10 laps showing on the scoring tower Bartlett opened a straightaway lead while Mahaney and Chad Phelps raced in close quarters for second and third with Jim Witko and Tim Kerr showed in the top five.
At the halfway point Bartlett still maintained his large lead as Mahaney, Phelps, Kerr and Matt Hulsizer ran second through fifth.
With 10 laps to go and no yellows to tighten the field up, Bartlett was running an almost flawless race as he was just hammer-down at the front of the field. Phelps moved to second and was still slugging it out with Mahaney in third while Kerr and Pat Ward started gaining on Phelps and Mahaney.
Over the remaining laps nobody challenged Bartlett as he cruised to the win by 2.276 margin of victory at the checkers. Mike Mahaney, Chad Phelps, Pat Ward and Chris Hile finished second through fifth. Larry Wight, Jeremy Smith, Max McLaughlin, Matt Hulsizer and Billy Decker completed the top ten.
After early yellow flag fever in the 25 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature it was a classic three car battle at the front of the field for the victory between Mike Stanton Jr., Nick Krause and Todd Root.
At the 10 lap mark you could have thrown a blanket over Stanton, Root and Krause as a few car lengths back Brent Joy and Rocco Leone raced for fourth and fifth.
With 10 laps to go Stanton, Root and Krause were still locked in a slugfest for the top spot as back markers were starting to come into play. Joy and Leone were still having their own race as they kept the leaders in sight.
On lap 18 using the top of the speedway Root shot into the lead as Krause moved into second.
The difference in the race came on lap 21. While the top cars not only raced each other for the lead they were also dealing with back markers who were two wide. Coming down the front straight Root was able to split two cars putting them a lap down and give himself a cushion to drive away for his first ever Brewerton win. Krause finished second, Joy made a late charge to finish third with Stanton and Tyler Trump rounding out the top five.
Casey Sykes erased the heartbreak of the week before as he picked up the win in the 20 lap Firehouse Subs Mod Lites. Sykes took the lead on lap 2 but the win was anything but easy as he first had to hold off pressure from Justin Williams and then Joe Isabell.
A yellow on lap 18 set up a green white checker finish. Isabell threw everything he had at Sykes getting under him exiting turn four setting up a drag race to the finish that Sykes won by a half a car length as AMB scoring showed 0.064 difference at the checkers. Williams, Joe Garafolo and Zack Babcock finished third through fifth.
In the 15 lap JB Logging & Firewood feature Chris Bonoffski took the lead on lap 2 from Sam Curcie and would lead the rest of the way. Like the Mod Lite feature the win wasn’t easy as he had to hold off constant pressure from Dakota Bechler for the narrow victory. Dakota Bechler, Quinn Wallis and Donnie Rider finished third through fifth.
Bonoffski picked up the $200 Xtreme Auto Recovery Back-to-Back Bonus for his second straight win.
