Tyler Courtney Takes Sunday Night’s USAC Win At Susquehanna

Story By: BRAD VORES / SUSQUEHANNA SPEEDWAY – YORK HAVEN, PA – Tyler Courtney closed out the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Eastern Storm presented by DMI series with a thrilling win Sunday night at Susquehanna Speedway.

The Indianapolis, IN driver used a lap 29 pass on leader Thomas Mesaurall and held on for the checkered flag to pick up the big payday in the Eastern Storm finale. Courtney became the fifth different winner in the five Eastern Storm races held this past week in Central Pennsylvania.

Polesitter Chad Boespflug grabbed the early led in the 30-lap USAC main, leading the first three laps before yielding to fellow front row starter Courtney on lap four.

Courtney would stay out front through lap 11 when California racer Thomas Meseraull took command.

T-Mez, piloting a Pennsylvania owned car, appeared headed to his second series win as he set a blistering pace around the racy York Haven oval. Meseraull held the point until Courtney had other ideas and drove back into the lead to lead the final two laps and take the thrilling victory.

Meseraull settled for the runner-up finish ahead of Justin Grant, Brady Bacon and Kevin Thomas, Jr. with Boespflug, Aaron Farney, Chase Stockton, Chris Windom and Shane Golobic completing the top ten finishers.

With his ninth place finish, Windom was declared the 2017 Eastern Storm series champion. He ended the week with 345 total points to defeat Kevin Thomas, Jr. who ended with 341 points.

Trevor Kobylarz, Brady Bacon and Boespflug were heat race winners for the 24 USAC Sprints on hand. Gary Rookie won the Last Chance Race.

Windom paced time trials with a lap of 17.434 seconds.

Defending track champion Alex Updegraff continued his stronghold over the Superior Homes Extreme Stock division taking his sixth win of the season.
Updegraff started 10th and grabbed the lead with four laps down and drove off for another convincing win ahead of Patrick McClane. Don Murphy, Donnie Broderick and Tyler Knaub.

Roger Weaver won the non-stop 20 lap Stock 600 Micro Sprint feature over Zane Rudisill, Zach Rhodes, Ryan Rutz and Eric Rutz. Weaver led all 20 laps.
