Part-Time LM Racing The Name Of The Game For Joey Squeglia
Column By: MATTHEW WIERNASZ / RPW – DERRY, NH – Joey Squeglia is running a part time schedule this season the Pro All Star Series North Super Late Models and the Granite State Pro Stock Series. He will mainly focus on the two PASS races as well as the Granite State Pro Stock Series at Star Speedway. PASS ran this past weekend at Star where he finished 15th. PASS will be back at Star Speedway on July 14th.
The Granite State Pro Stock Series will be back at Star Speedway on Classic Weekend on Saturday night September 9th. He will also focus on the PASS races at Lee and Oxford as well as run a couple weekly races at Oxford.
Squeglia believes there is nicer equipment out there these days.
” There is a lot of top notch teams. Good drivers good equipment which obviously gives some good racing especially on the PASS North Series.” Squeglia Said
Squeglia had a good 2016 season where he won a PASS race at Lee USA Speedway last August. It was a huge win for him and his team. He won a Granite State Pro Stock race at Star on Classic night.
Squeglia ran nine races in 2016 where he had two wins one in PASS and one in the Granite State Pro Stock Series and a second place finish at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. All in all it was a great year for the team.
For a small team to get that win last year at Lee against a D.J. Shaw, Ben Rowe and Johnny Clark. it was pretty satisfying to get that win and to beat them is huge.
” There is a lot of good talent out there. You gotta have everything. A good team good equipment and have some luck too. Its a lot of fun.” Squeglia Said
One event that Squeglia would like to qualify for is the Oxford 250 on Sunday August 27th. A lot of drivers have already entered the event from all over on the 27th. A total of 41 teams as of May 5th have entered the event. Squeglia will head there for some regular shows and get some seat time as well as prepare a notebook.
For Squeglia to get into the 250 would be huge but he feels you have to prepare for it.
” You can’t just go there hoping to qualify. You have to go there prepared to run the race. That’s what we want to do. We want to qualify and be able to do the best we can.”
If Squeglia got a top 10 at the Oxford 250, it would be huge.
Squeglia and the team are really busy outside of racing. He owns his own business as well as his crew chief where he owns his own business as well and other members on the team are busy with work. When they go racing, they have to pick and choose what races they wanted to do. He would love to run a whole schedule but its not possible with families and work.
His crew chief Jamie Ruolau is runs Ruolau Racing Dynamics in Seabrook, NH. He builds the team shocks.
Squeglia scored a big win last year in the Star Classic in the Granite State Pro Stock Series.
” Bob Webber put the Pro Stocks on the schedule. If you never been to the Star Classic. Its all open wheel fans and supermodified people. Its standing room only with the Star Classic. Its a huge crowd. Its a different crowd. It was a pretty good race. D.J. (Shaw) finished second. It was a big win for us for sure just to win at Star in front of the Classic crowd because its such a big crowd.” Squeglia Said
