Larry Wight Stays Hot: Grabs Fulton Modified Victory

Story By: DAVE MEDLER / FULTON SPEEDWAY – FULTON, NY – Larry Wight, fresh off his second straight win Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway, saw “Lightning” strike again Saturday at the Fulton Speedway when he raced to victory lane, sweeping the Brewerton and Fulton weekend.

In the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Modified feature, Wight was a driver on a mission as he took the lead on lap 10 and never looked back holding off a late race challenge from Jimmy Phelps.

Other winners on Oswego County Today night were, Ron Davis III (Sportsman) Chris Fleming (Late Models) Jimmy Moyer & Kyle Perry (Novice Sportsman) and Chris Bonoffski (4-Cylinders).

Tim Mayne and Tim Kerr brought the Tracey Road Equipment Modified field down to the green with Mayne grabbing the early lead in the 35 lap feature before a quick yellow on the opening lap.

When the race went back green, Kerr used the top of the speedway to take command of the race as the racing was two and three wide behind Kerr.

With 10 laps showing on the scoring tower Larry Wight, who started 17th, used the low side of the speedway to drive by Kerr into the lead. Chris Hile, Tom Sears Jr. and Mayne raced for third through fifth.

At the 15 lap mark Wight led by a half a straightaway. Behind Wight, Kerr, Jimmy Phelps, Hile and Pat Ward were locked in a tight battle for second through fifth.

Lap 20 Wight opened up an almost full straightaway lead. Kerr, Phelps and Ward used every inch of the speedway racing for position.

With 10 to go, Wight was on cruise control out front. Phelps moved into second and took off after Wight. Ward, Kerr and Hile showed in the top five.

With 5 laps to go Phelps cut into Wight’s lead as they approached backmarkers. In traffic Phelps reeled in Wight setting up a shootout to the checkers. Once Wight cleared traffic he took off for the win over Phelps. Pat Ward, Tim Sears Jr. and Tim Kerr finished third through fifth. Chris Hile, Chad Phelps, Andrew Ferguson, Matt Hulsizer and Billy Whittaker completed the top ten.

In the 25 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature Brett Draper would use the top of the speedway to drive his way from his 6th starting spot to the lead in the early going.

With great racing throughout the field Ron Davis III would come from 13th to take the lead on lap 10 using the bottom of the speedway to drive by Draper. Tyler Thompson, Glenn Forward and Jeremy Pitcher were in a tight battle for third through fifth.

Davis was still in control of the race out front with 10 laps remaining. Behind Davis, Draper, Thompson, Pitcher, Corey Barker and Billy Clark Jr. used every inch of the speedway racing for second through sixth.

A yellow with 5 laps to go would erase the lead Davis had and gave the other top runners one last shot at Davis for the win.

Once the green came back out nobody seriously challenged Davis as he grabbed the win. The race behind Davis was a tight one as you could have almost thrown a blanket over second through fifth. Corey Barker who came from the consolation was running fourth on the final lap put on an impressive drive finishing second. Jeremy Pitcher, Brett Draper and Glenn Forward finished third through fifth.

Once again the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models put on an impressive 20 lap feature from the front of the field to the back with the winner in doubt until the checkers.

AJ Kingsley would lead the opening laps holding off Chris Fleming until a red flag on lap 10 when Max Hill took a hard hit in turn four. Hill was okay. On the restart Fleming took the lead by a couple feet over Kingsley at the flag stand.

With 5 laps to go Fleming led by a narrow margin as Kingsley, Jason Parkhurst, Sean Beardsley and Dale Caswell battled it out for second through fifth.

A quick caution on lap 16 would tighten the field up for a 4-lap dash to the checkers.

On the restart Kingsley would drive back to the lead by a narrow margin over Fleming. One lap later it was Fleming showing number one on the scoring tower. On the final lap Fleming and Kingsley would race side by side in three and four that saw Fleming win the drag down the front straight and under the checkers by a narrow margin over Kingsley. Jason Parkhurst, Chad Homan and Sean Beardsley finished third through fifth.

In the first 15 lap E&V Energy Novice Sportsman Jimmy Moyer would grab his first win. Jake Davis, Steve Marshall, Kearra Backus and Bill Megnin brought home top five finishes.

Colby Herzog and Kyle Perry had a wild last lap battle for the win in lapped traffic in the second 15 lap E&V Energy Sportsman feature that saw Perry get by Herzog at the finish by a narrow margin. Tom Juno, Tom Mackey and Dan Dupra finished third through fifth.

Chris Bonoffski would win his second straight 15 lap JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinder feature. Bonoffski would take the lead when early leader Jamie Radley ran into problems on lap 3. Bonoffski would lead the rest of the way having to hold off Dakota and Ray Belcher at the finish. Skip DeGroff and Joe Buske Jr. came home fourth and fifth.
