Engel Opens Allegheny Sprint Tour Season Tri-City Win
Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / ALLEGHENY SPRINT TOUR – SENECA, PA – After losing the first three scheduled events to Mother Nature, the Racesaver/IMCA Allegheny Sprint Tour finally opened its inaugural season by visiting Franklin, Pennsylvania’s Tri-City Raceway Park on Sunday evening, May 14. The 305 cubic inch sprint cars were one of five divisions on the card, all helping Tri-City open its gates for the first time this year.
Ralph Engel, a Harmony native and former IMCA/Racesaver feature winner during Laurel Highlands competition, earned high honors on Sunday night at the Franklin half-mile, topping all 12 entries by leading all 20 circuits. Jacob Gomola and Dakota Schweikart rounded out the podium finishers, followed by Dale Schweikart and Rob Felix.
“Not a bad way to open our season,” Jake Gomola explained, Allegheny Sprint Tour promoter. “Hopefully now we can move through the rest of our season without any additional distractions. Mother Nature was tough on us for a while. The rest of the summer stands pretty busy. I look forward to it!”
Racesaver/IMCA Allegheny Sprint Tour travelers will continue their 2017 season with back-to-back appearances at the Thunder Mountain Speedway near Brookville, Pennsylvania. Action will resume on Friday night, May 19, followed by another one-night appearance on Friday, May 26th.
